Month in Review and April Goals

Lily in a tunnel

Greetings from ever-so-much-warmer-than-Massachusetts Nevada! We survived the flight out here, and we are all enjoying time with Mike’s family. My goals for March were simple, and I’m happy to say I was able to meet all of them, in spite of the entire family being sick off and on throughout March. It’s always easier if goals are inevitable – for example, I HAD to get ready for this trip, and I HAD to get Johnny ready for preschool! Lily’s monkey was the one goal I could have missed, and I’m happy to say it’s finished and being well loved!

There isn’t much to report about getting ready for the trip; I discovered that one way to motivate myself to make time for sewing is to have packing as the alternate activity! I’m quite the queen of procrastination when it comes to packing… The flight out went as well as it possibly could. We had an extra empty seat, and all three kids fell asleep and stayed asleep. The flight attendants, security people, and other passengers were all really nice, too. The hardest part of the day was actually the hours leading up to our 7:55pm departure! Emma and Johnny both knew that we were flying that day, but they had a hard time being patient. They knew we would fly at bedtime, so at 2pm Emma was sitting at the front window, claiming the sun was setting!

Johnny’s transition to preschool went pretty well – he only cried for portions of the first two days, and then was happier and happier to go. He did get sick (along with the rest of the family – we took turns being sick throughout the month of March!) and missed a couple of days, right before we left. I enjoyed the slow pace of the days Johnny was home sick, but the program he’s in is making enough of a difference that it’s well worth it. He is definitely talking a LOT more!

Since we’re traveling for nearly half of April, goals this month will also be simple:

  • Enjoy our time with family. Target Areas: gratitude
  • Keep the kids happy for the drive to/from Arizona. Target Areas: peace and education
  • Get the kids adjusted back to Massachusetts time once we return home. Target Areas: health and peace
  • Go through our clothes/toys and sort out several to donate. Target Areas: education, gratitude, and generosity
  • Organize a geography blog hop to run starting in May or June. I was thinking along the lines of different bloggers picking a country, sharing a post with links and/or printables for activities, and then a linky code you could insert into the post that would link to all the other bloggers who are participating and their countries. So, potentially, even old posts would work if you have blogged about a country before. Another option would be to have a geography guest blogger here once a week – that way all the posts would be in one place. Any thoughts? Target Area: education

  1. I love your geography blog hop idea!! That would so wonderful to organize all the great ideas of all the moms out there!!

  2. I didn’t know little Johnny was in preschool! I am glad he is enjoying it and didn’t have too rough of a transition. That is awesome for all of you!

I hope you are having a wonderful time right now visiting family!

I think your idea is super for the geo hop. I know we will be starting up geo here on a regular basis, but not until July. Geo is an area I lack in for our homeschool and I am determined to do better. I am hoping your hop will encourage me to do two things–regular geo and to post more! I am not a regular blogger lately:-).

Lily is sooooo adorable!!! Love that picture.

LOL about sewing motivation in having the alternate activity of packing. I got going on some curtains after I gave up fiction… similar, I think.

Good to hear about the clear improvement for Johnny – I’m sure that makes getting out the door in the mornings much easier.

I’d be up for doing a geo post on Egypt; your blog or mine – doesn’t matter to me. I’m hoping someone does one on America, or even part of America, for my kids’ benefit.

  5. Ooh, you are so close :) I hope you enjoy your stay in the West. It’s great that Johnny enjoys his preschool. I am curious of your ideas for geography hop. We still do geography at home but not as focused as we did last year. I was thinking of restarting geography studies too, the problem here is finding time for them. Debbie at Children Grow does have a geography linky here – http://whisperswhispering.blogspot.com/search/label/Geography

  6. You all sure travel a lot! That’s great that the kids were able to sleep on the plane. I hope your trip goes well.

I missed the post about Johnny going to preschool. Bummer about him getting sick :( I’m glad to hear he’s doing better with his talking though.

  7. Eeep! Thanks for the reminder that I need to do goals for April!

And I love your idea about the geography lessons. I’m planning on doing one with the girls on Russia – since it’s part of our heritage. I’m waiting for a few books to arrive before I start my lesson plan! Can’t wait to see what you come up with!
