Lily’s monkey

Lily hugs her monkey

One my goals for March was to finish Lily’s in-production-for-an-absurdly-long-time crocheted monkey. This poor monkey’s ear-less head sat in my craft bucket for a very long time, and I’m glad she is getting plenty of love to make up for the long wait for the rest of her body!

Loads of kisses,

Plenty of cuddles,

And a nice dose of adventure thrown in for good measure!

our resident monkey family

Here she is with the rest of our monkey family, all made from the pattern in Amigurumi World: Seriously Cute Crochet. I’m not sure how Lily and Emma’s monkeys wound up looking so different since they were made using the exact same set of instructions, but I rarely follow patterns exactly – with all three of these monkeys I only crocheted through the front (I think?) loop, instead of both loops, and that definitely changes the shape. And since I taught myself how to crochet, using my questionable ability to follow written instructions, I never know if I’m doing it “right”. But does it really matter, when they look cute and my kids love them?

  1. So cute. And I love the last two lines of this post. So true!! And a good reminder to me, to let go of my perfection more and more.

I made a similar monkey about 7 years ago, along with a giraffe. They were both given away as gifts. Seeing yours makes me want to make some more again… : )

  2. Oh, when I saw this post days back, I LOVED it! You are awesome to make all these little monkeys, and Lily is so sweet and adorable with them!

I know the monkeys are so happy to have all their body parts now:-).

  3. Oh she is so cute! I love that top picture, Penelope gives me that look too, “Oh I am so cute and I am so getting into trouble!” Or maybe I’m just imagining that last part!

  4. Love the photos. Anna has received a knitted Little Monster for Christmas, and it quickly became one of her favorite cuddle friends. I guess one of these days I need to figure out how to wash him gently :)

  5. Heavens, she does remind me of a younger Nora, at least physically. It really takes me back.

  6. So, so cute! Just tell yourself that waiting longer means she was older and able to appreciate it and love it so much more!

What a precious sequence of photos!

The love is all that matters, and these cute monkeys get plenty of that!! Well done meeting your goal! :)

  8. Two Chicks and a Hen

These are darling. The photos are really making me want to crochet–I’ve made one or two things before, but I’d like to do more. I agree with you about following the pattern–there’s no need for them to look exactly like the model, especially if you like them.

    Are you on Ravelry?
