Emma was born in the UK, and since that is where I started off on the adventure of motherhood, I have a certain partiality towards all British baby products. So, I was thrilled when the Mom Bloggers Club offered me the opportunity to review BPA-free sippy cups from top UK brand Tommee Tippee. We never tried these when we lived in the UK, but when they arrived in the mail I instantly recognized them as a friend’s first choice.
We were sent four sippy cups from the explora line. Two “girl-style” six-months-onwards sippy cups for Lily:
And two “boy-style” nine-months-onwards sippy cups for Johnny:
Johnny loves his new sippy cups, and Emma instantly claimed Lily’s pink sippy cup. Good thing there’s still the purple one for Lily… As far as I can tell, the only difference between the two different kinds of cups we received is that the cups being marketed to younger children are shorter and have handles. The valves and spout openings look exactly the same.
I love the feel of the rubber grips on the sides of these cups, and the fact that they do not normally leak. One cup did leak after being left on its side for an hour or so, but I think that would happen with any sippy cup. Another leaked because I didn’t screw the lid on properly – also not the manufacturer’s fault.
The valve consists of two pieces which have to be taken apart for washing, but I don’t mind the extra step for a non-leaking cup that my children can still easily drink from. One final bonus is the attached plastic cover for the spout. My kids are constantly dropping their sippy cups, and this reduces the number of germs the spouts pick up. I’m eager to avoid germs, especially after spending the first half of this month in illness-induced child misery.
Final verdict? I like these sippy cups! They’ve been my (and my kids’) first choice cups since we first tried them a week ago – and I expect them to stay there for the foreseeable future.
