Happy Lily with a dirty faceLily with a dirty face, and very happy.

Jenny from Our Nifty Notebook tagged me to answer these questions:

  1. What was your favorite childhood show/cartoon?
I didn’t have a television growing up, but I loved Mr. Roger’s neighborhood, especially the bit where he explained how different things worked. I wasn’t very keen on the makebelieve bit. And I LOVED the typewriter on Sesame Street, which my husband doesn’t remember every seeing and was convinced I had invented until I found it on youtube. I remember finding this one especially clever.
  2. What does your child/children want to be for Halloween?  (At my house, this changes daily, so just use their latest idea)
Emma wants to be Tinkerbell (and has an outfit). Johnny usually wants to be a bear (and has a costume), but occasionally decides he wants to be his favorite letter, T. Maybe he’ll be a bear with a T on his tummy? Lily is going as a ladybug, at Emma’s request. =)
  3. What’s your favorite color?
Blue. But pink and purple were my favorites for years, so much so that I spent hours of my childhood coloring entire sheets of paper pink and purple.
  4. What is your go to recipe for parties or get togethers?
I just learned how to make my own butternut squash ravioli, so that’s my current favorite for dinners. Otherwise I love pumpkin chocolate chip cookies from scratch and the triple chocolate Ghirardelli brownie mix.
  5. What’s your favorite website?
    Google reader =)
  6. Do you have a favorite family tradition?
Three things I liked today every evening.
  7. If you had an extra $500, what would you do with it?
Put it towards plane tickets to visit family.
  8. Has your child/children started their Christmas list yet?
They don’t know you can write a Christmas list. But we talk about Christmas every week (nearly every day), and I just ordered Calico Critters (on sale at Barnes and Noble, if you are looking for some).

And then Susana from Our Homeschool Fun tagged me to answer these questions:

  1. What do you worry most about (that is, if you are a worrier like myself)?
The people I love who fight depression every single day.
  2. What is the one food you could not give up (and yes, chocolate is a food group)?
Blueberries. Or sugar snap peas fresh from the garden, if I could actually get my hands on some for once. Preferably my grandpa’s garden…
  3. What is something that you do not like doing on a daily basis, but you do anyway?
Cleaning. I never do as much of it as I should, either.
  4. What meal do you cook most for dinner?
Pasta-based dishes. Because I can fix them quickly on the (many) days I realize it’s 5pm and I haven’t started dinner.
  5. How many times per week do you cook on average–a real meal, Eggos and/or chicken nuggets do not count:-).
    Six.
  6. Do you have a tattoo?  (and no, for the record, I do not :-) )
    No.
  7. Who is your favorite children’s author?
Martin Waddell – in part because of the fantastic illustrators he works with.
  8. What is your favorite fragrance, ie, perfume, body splash, lotion?
    Anything mild.
  9. What is your favorite nice place to eat out without kids?
We don’t really eat out, but if we did I’d probably pick somewhere with good Japanese or Thai food.

And here are my questions:

  1. What is your favorite childhood memory?
  2. If you could travel anywhere instantly, for a single afternoon, where would you go?
  3. What’s something quirky or funny that you remember doing as a child?

I’m not going to tag any specific people, but I’d love an answer to any of the questions in this post in the comments (or on your blog, just let me know so I can drop by to read your answers?)

  1. Thanks for playing along Mary Anne. I love reading all the answers in these tag posts over the last week. You are so healthy, and so awesome at cooking so much. I knew you’d have SuperMom answers like this:-).

Childhood memory? Honestly, I have no idea off the top of my head.
Anywhere for the afternoon? Day trip to the beach with our family.
Something quirky from childhood? I guess my imaginary friend Hildegard:-).

  2. Oh and to answer your questions:
    1. What is your favorite childhood memory? Gosh, I have so many! I’m so happy I can say that.
    2. If you could travel anywhere instantly, for a single afternoon, where would you go? Only for an afternoon? I’d say Hawaii, but then I’d be sad I only had an afternoon. Probably to visit the IKEA in Chicago! LOL!
    3. What’s something quirky or funny that you remember doing as a child? I’ll have to ask my older sister and get back to you. I’m sure she’ll think of something instantly! LOL!

  3. @Catherine – Most recipes recommend a butter sauce; I prefer mozzarella and have been meaning to try parmesan.

  4. Great answers. My favorite childhood memory was picking wild strawberries and mushrooms with my family. And I would love to travel back to Minsk for a day to see familiar places and how they changed in the 10 years since I’ve been there last.

  5. Good questions! I enjoyed your thoughtful and fun answers, and especially the reminder about the “three things I liked today…” I’d like to hear your answers to your own questions, too.

Here are my answers to your questions at the bottom:
    1) My first time in a paddleboat at the zoo in Houston.
    2) I would LOVE to travel instantly!!!! If only for a single afternoon, I think I would choose Kanlica on the Bosphorus Strait in Istanbul. The yogurt is awesome and the view fabulous. I could spend many afternoons there…
    3) I was a quirky child. I used to make up stories to cheer up my sister. The main characters were “Chief Maud Dandelion” and “Hidey Poof Criminal”.

    1. Here are my answers to my own questions:

      1) “Helping” my grandpa farm – by building dams in his irrigation ditches. I genuinely thought I was helping, even though I distinctly remember him (ever-so-patiently) asking me over and over to stop.

      2) Probably Edinburgh, Scotland – it’s the city where Emma was born, and I would love for her to see it (assuming the family could come along), and to meet up with old friends.

      3) I was scared of “robbers”, so I kept all of my toys hidden under my bed. Occasionally I hid under the bed as well. And my sister and I had a nightly conflict for years: I wanted the door shut (so the robbers would think our bedroom was a closet and not come in) and the window open as an escape route. She wanted the window shut (so the robbers couldn’t get in in the first place) and the door open as an escape route.

    2. @Elisa – the names of those characters themselves are quite indicative of your quirky childhood nature – I love them!

  6. Your last comment just reminded me that I used to believe that if I laid perfectly flat in my bed with the covers up over my head that the burglars wouldn’t be able to see me.

This is way too much fun. Maybe I’ll randomly restart it again in 6 months. I’m having a blast reading everyone’s answers and seeing where it goes. I’d totally missed you’d gotten tagged, and I might have tagged you as well, but my migraine is so bad right now I could be misremembering.

And now where would I go?……. Maybe Williamsburg, because I know more or less my way around there and could see some fun stuff for an afternoon. I’d say London or somewhere in Europe, but I’d get so lost there I’d end up wandering around trying to find something. Of course in London I could just end up in a bookstore and be happy.

    1. @Ticia – I’m sorry you have such a bad migraine! Feel free to tag me if you do start it up again, I agree this has been fun!

    1. @Jen – For the pasta, I mix three eggs with two cups of flour. The filling is just butternut squash with a little butter, salt, and nutmeg to taste.
