My kids are really enjoying working on their stop motion animation skills thanks to a great little kit we were sent by OgoSport: the OgoBild Animate It Studio Kit. This kit comes with a camera, a confirmation code to download a copy of the Animate It! Express software, and Ogobild Bits that you can put together to build cute little creatures that are perfect for storytelling. Eight-year-old Emma, six-year-old Johnny, and five-year-old Lily were instantly enthralled.
They each put together a creature, and then set to work making movies. The Animate It Express software was super easy to install on our HP Envy laptop, and the bendy camera makes it easy to get the angle you want for your storytelling. We found the onion skin feature in the Animate It Express particularly useful; do you see how it shows you where the pieces were in the previous show so that you can line them up exactly how you want them for the next shot?
This is the same computer software technology used by Aardman’s Studio – the creators of Wallace and Gromit and Chicken Run.
The kids love creating and editing their work, and then watching it back! They are very serious about getting everything just right. I see a lot of stop motion animation storytelling in our future!
The Ogobild Bits can be a little tricky to put together (you have to really push some of the pieces into place), but the benefit of this is that they stay together really well once they are built – until you decide to take them apart. This also makes them great for unplugged pretend play!
Here are a couple of the kids’ animation videos! First one by eight-year-old Emma:
Have your kids tried making stop motion animation yet?
MaryAnne is a craft loving educator, musician, photographer, and writer who lives in Silicon Valley with her husband Mike and their four children.
Very fun! I love that it’s the same software used for Wallace and Gromit. :)
I love that also :)
This is on our to-do-list to do with our first graders this year!!
I bet they will love it! My kids sure do!
This is great. My 9-y-o has been wanting to make stop motion vids too except with his Godzilla figures lol.
I could see some very exciting storylines involving Godzilla :)
They have a stop motion animation station at our local library and my kids LOVE it.
What a great thing to have at a library!
They did a great job! Parker learned how to do stop motion video at camp this summer, using LEGO guys as the characters. He used a free app at home to make me a video for my birthday, featuring a minifig that was supposed to look like me:)
That is a sweet birthday gift! LEGO guys make great stop motion animation props.
I love how all your kids seemed to be working together!
They are really good at working together and sharing most of the time, and I really appreciate that!
This is great. I am pinning this to look at it later in detail.
It’s so easy to use! The kids love it.
The stop motion animation looks like so much fun. I enjoyed the videos showing what different ages can do.
I think we will be doing this a lot over the next few weeks. The kids sure enjoyed it!
