Thanks to some unseasonably gorgeous weather, we spent Wednesday afternoon at Stone Zoo. We were so excited to see this mama and baby Gibbon! They were the last thing we saw, and well worth the wait! Isn’t this little baby adorable?
We were amazed at how well the little baby hung on while Mama swung through her habitat! There was a Daddy Gibbon, too, with half an arm missing – which didn’t prevent him from swinging in the slightest. In fact, he was SO fast that I didn’t manage to catch him on film! Mama Gibbon was a little slower, I’m guessing due at least in part to the baby clinging to her belly!
They had changed the zoo a lot since my last visit, and I was thrilled with the improved animal habitats.
We saw these brother bears near the zoo entrance, and I could have watched them forever. They were so playful! They came to the zoo through the Appalachian Bear Rescue.
Johnny is a HUGE bear fan, and he was incredibly excited to see some real live bears! He was so disappointed when we discovered there were no bears at Franklin Park Zoo in September. He even started asking me if the bears had all died, like dinosaurs. This bear made his day by being super friendly, walking back and forth so the kids could follow him! You can’t see in the photo, but the shirt he happened to be wearing that day says, “I give bear hugs.” And he does! He was a little disappointed to learn that he couldn’t go in the cage and play with the bears.
We also got to see this cougar,
Jaguar,
And these flamingoes.
As well as this Macaw (I always think these birds are so pretty!)
And this impressive tortoise, who walked over to the glass to check us out.
It was the perfect afternoon with friends. Thank you, C, for such a fun day!

This looks like a beautiful zoo and a fun trip.
It was a great day out with the kids!
What a great day at the zoo! I love watching the monkeys. Though my favorites to watch are always the orangutans and the gorillas. I could watch them for hours!
Those are always my favorites, too. Although the bears put on quite a show, this particular visit!
This reminds me that I need to take the kids to the zoo again soon!
What a fun day! Those cats are gorgeous!
I almost felt like the stone zoo was our second home while we lived near it- especially during the year that we won a membership for naming one of the baby reindeer. It looks like some things have changed even since I left. For one, I remember the gibbons, but the baby is new, obviously, as is the arm injury! I remember when the bears came on the scene! The tortoise must be new too, or does he live in one of the stinky indoor areas? I very rarely could stomach those parts, and especially not while pregnant! Thanks for the great walk down memory lane!
The tortoise in the indoor area, which wasn’t very stinky this particular day – I think mostly because it wasn’t too warm out!
Looks like everyone – people and animals – enjoyed the gorgeous weather. Fabulous photos. And I’m SO glad Johnny was able to see living proof that bears do exist even today. :)
Awesome zoo pictures!
It looks like a great place to visit. Beautiful animals shots!
It’s the perfect zoo for little kids – they can easily walk through the entire zoo, and it houses a nice variety of animals.
Sigh, I love zoos and wish that Austin had a better one. It’s really rather pathetic for the price.
That looks like a fabulous day! I’m glad Johnny didn’t make it into the bear cage to play. :)
Me too! =)
