This week’s pick for the Virtual Book Club for Kids is Scaredy Squirrel. My kids find this book hilarious, because the squirrels where we live are anything but scared!

Scaredy Squirrel is, as his name implies, scared of everything. There are so many dangers out in the world – germs, poison ivy, even green aliens! It’s a great read for cautious kids especially, and author Melanie Watt has created an entire series around this character.

Five year old Anna is really into tracing lately. Tracing is an excellent fine motor pre-writing activity! I created a simple printable for her to lead three different squirrels to the tree where they left their acorns.

She enjoyed tracing the lines with a crayon and then with her fingers.

If you look closely, you’ll notice that there are a couple of ways you could interpret the dotted paths. It makes this worksheet slightly more open-ended than typical tracing pages for kids.

  1. I think my daughter had a shirt very like that when she was little, and I loved that shirt so much!

Tracing sheets are such a great pre-writing skill.
