Simple Bird Feeder

Our local library hosts preschool crafts every week, and this was one of my favorites from last year. It’s very easy and fun. You can even put it out on your windowsill if you live in a city apartment. The library had Crisco for this craft, but peanut butter seems better for the birds to me (assuming it’s made completely out of peanuts without added oils and sugars). The library may have been working around peanut allergies…

MATERIALS:

  • slice of bread
  • peanut butter or vegetable oil spread (Crisco or something similar)
  • birdseed

STEPS

    1. Cover slice of bread with a thick layer of peanut butter or vegetable oil spread

  • Add birdseed – either let your child sprinkle (pour if you’re Emma) the birdseed onto the bread or have the seed on a plate and let them dip the bread into it.

  • Set out for birds (in our case, wild turkeys) to enjoy
