Setting Monthly Goals for September 2025

Every month, I set a few simple attainable goals to add focus to my life. Here are my monthly goals for September 2025.

How Did I Do With August Goals?

I planned to catch up with life in August. And I sort of did, but here I am starting off September behind, publishing this blog post a day late.

August was busy, largely with celebrations! We started off the month celebrating half of my family’s birthdays, enjoyed a visit with an old friend in the middle, and ended it with my sister’s wedding. It made for a hectic month, but for all of the best reasons. I can’t believe that I’m now a parent of four teens until Emma turns twenty in February!

August was also a month of transitions. Emma went back to college for her sophomore year. She has her own room this year, and she is super excited about that – especially after living in a very small triple last year.

Johnny started his senior year of high school. He is at our regular public school, where he always seems to learn a lot and to come home happy (if swamped with homework).

Lily and Anna started eleventh and eighth grade, respectively. They are both homeschooling this year. I was nervous about homeschooling 11th grade, even though we enrolled in a charter school so we have some support (both financial and educational). Emma homeschooled for the first half of eleventh grade while we were living in England, but that was a temporary thing. I think it’s likely that Lily will opt to homeschool for her senior year, too, and that means applying to college as a homeschooler. That’s a bit daunting. But I think it will work out!

Both Lily Anna are, for sure, enjoying more control over how they structure their days. I see them doing deeper learning than they can in school. This is partly because school involves a lot of wasted time, and partly because they can spend extra hours on an assignment if they find it interesting without worrying about bell schedules. They feel more relaxed and seem to feel more freedom to genuinely learn. They cook lunch together every day and start their days with tea parties – rituals they would never have time for if they were going to a traditional school.

I’m back in school myself (online), juggling assignments there with my part time research job, homeschool, and everything else life decides to throw my way. It’s a lot. I do like the library science program that I am in, so far. I’m working on a research paper for work; hopefully we’ll get it published soon.

Monthly Goals for September 2025

Here are my goals for September:

  • Enjoy being home for an extended period of time. We had a travel-heavy summer. As wonderful and exciting as that was, being home will make it easier to establish a fall routine.
  • Keep working to find balance with everything I am trying to accomplish. I think being home more will help with this!
  • Enjoy sewing and music, even if this happens in tiny little pockets of time.
  • Make time for blogging, even if it also happens in tiny little pockets of time. I have so many posts that are just waiting to be written – and partially written, sitting in my drafts folder.

What are you hoping to accomplish this month?

  1. Figuring out how to settle back into a routine is so hard. I’m trying to do that, and it is a struggle.
But a wedding and all the birthdays sounds wonderful. So, even if it was a crazy August, it does sound wonderful.
