Every month I set a few simple goals to add focus to my life. Here are my monthly goals for May 2026.

How was April 2026?
What You'll Find on This Page
April 2026 was very busy. I enjoyed some great time with my children, especially a week spent visiting schools Johnny is choosing between. I hadn’t ever gone on a solo trip with him, so this was an exciting opportunity before he heads to college this fall.
College Visit Road Trip
We flew in and out of Connecticut, rented a car, and used my sister’s house as a home base as we drove between East Coast schools.

If you are a long-time reader, you know that I love road trips. This trip was no exception. We stopped at some quirky places, like this Tri-State Monument that you reach by driving through a graveyard.

Drive also meant we could fulfill one of my childhood dreams with a side trip to Fallingwater. I highly, highly recommend a visit if you ever get the chance! The photos are beautiful, but they don’t do it justice.

Johnny told me we needed to see the Harrisburg Capitol Building, so we stopped there. I am so glad he suggested it; it was full of incredible artwork and definitely worth the slight detour.
Saying Goodbye to My Roots

The farm I spent my early childhood living on (photo above) is likely to be turned into houses and shops soon along with the surrounding farms. My dad flew out for a visit, and I joined him along with several of my other siblings. It was a bittersweet trip; I know it is pretty inevitable (people need houses), but I will miss this beautiful place. but so good to see my dad, a couple of his siblings, and my own siblings.
Home Sweet Home
I’m writing this in the Minneapolis airport, where I spent a couple of days for a conference. The city was beautiful, and I found the skyways that allow you to move around the city without going outside fascinating. The weather was beautiful, so I still opted to walk outside after one exploration of the skyways.

I am very excited to return to my children and my pets. My children keep me grounded in what matters most, and my pets remind me that there is always something to enjoy in life, even when the going gets tough.

Setting Goals for May 2026
I am very excited to be home in May after my travel-heavy April! I am always grateful for opportunities and I enjoy experiencing different places, but I am fundamentally a homebody.
There is still a ton of divorce-related uncertainty in my life, and that makes it challenging to focus on goals, but I am giving it a go anyway because I still find it helpful.
- Enjoy Anna’s ballet performances! I love watching her dance.
- Enjoy a visit from my niece; I think we get two full days and part of two more this month!
- Sew and play music when I can
- Finish up my spring term classes, hopefully in time to enjoy a bit of a break before summer starts.
- Keep up with work.
- Sew and craft when I can
- Enjoy a visit from my sister, who is taking me and my kids the BTS concert, which I hear will be epic!

As evidenced by my just now commenting and it’s essentially the end of May, it’s super insanely busy. I’ve been out of town for the vast majority of it, and the little bits and pieces that I was in town were all insanely busy trying to get ready to go out of town or to pack to move.
That being said, I understand the weirdness and bitter sweetness of going back to say goodbye to your roots and how odd it can be to see where you grew up and how it is about to change.
I’ll probably be moving this summer or fall, so please share any tips you have…
