Every month I set a few simple goals to add focus to my life. Here are my monthly goals for June 2026.

How was May 2026?
What You'll Find on This Page
After a lot of travel in April I was very happy to stay home for the month of May! It was a busy month with mostly good things. TWO of my sisters came to visit, I got to see my soldier niece for Memorial Day weekend, and I LOVED watching my daughter Anna dance the part of Aurora in her ballet company’s production of Sleeping Beauty. My sister Elisabeth flew out for that performance, and it was wonderful to get some time with her.
I finished up spring term for school and got a bit of a break from work as well as it was quiet for a week or two. School is back in session as of this morning, and work is picking up again, so I’m glad I got a short break. That gave me more time for both music and sewing, which I enjoyed. Anna gave me some adorable highland coo fabric for Mother’s Day, and I sewed this fun bag using some of it thanks to the free crafted crossbody pattern from Woodland Stitches.

I printed that pattern out at 120%, since I wanted a bag that would hold my water bottle and a book and a few other things. It worked beautifully!
1 Second a Day for May
This year I’ve been using the 1 Second a Day app to create mini videos for each month. This was May:
BTS Concert at Stanford Stadium

My sister Becca is an epic BTS fan. She discovered them while living in China. They came to Stanford to perform, and Becca treated my kids and I to amazing tickets. It made for a very fun night out.
Winchester Mystery House
I got to accompany Anna on a field trip to Winchester Mystery House. It’s a place I’ve always been curious about, but tickets are pretty pricey so I hadn’t gone. We both really enjoyed the tour, and Anna would love to go back sometime to see the basement and attic, which you need a separate ticket for.

Setting Goals for June 2026
I’m so excited for summer! This is always my favorite time of year, although it will be busy this year with school and work and life stuff taking up a lot of my time. Here are my monthly goals for June 2026:
- Celebrate Johnny’s high school graduation! He’s looking forward to starting his studies in architecture this fall.
- Help Anna with a sewing project.
- Help Lily with crochet. I love that my kids are all very creative.
- Enjoy a visit from Emma. She’s staying in LA this summer for an internship opportunity, so we will only see her briefly.
- Keep up with school. So far my classes look interesting: instructional strategies and working with library media materials. I also got a grant that I’ll be working on a project for, building a resource to help librarians make informed decisions around using AI as well as to help them run trainings on ethical AI use. It’s a complicated topic without great answers, but hopefully I can still build a helpful resource.
- Keep up with work. I’m excited about my current project, which is contributing to a resource around the needs of childhood cancer patients returning to school. It uses a nice blend of my health and education backgrounds.
- Play music and sew when I can.
I have some health stuff going on, but that’s not a goal, just something to deal with. And there are a ton of divorce details that need working out; again something life threw at me rather than a goal.
What is June looking like for you? What are you hoping to accomplish this month?

Talking with Superman about using AI in schools has been really interesting because that has been some of his college classes so I look forward to seeing what you’re classes about ethical AI use in libraries will look like.
It’s such a new technology (well, new that it is so powerful; the basic technology has been around for decades). Everyone is trying to figure out how to deal with the ethics side. It’s definitely an interesting and often prickly topic, especially around copyright.
