Happy New Year! Here are my monthly goals for January 2025. I set a few simple, attainable goals every month.

As always, I used my Word of the Year Generator to choose my word for 2025. This year, I got ACT as my word of the year.
I’ll be honest. I’m a pretty cautious person by nature, and I typically have about 50 ideas (or more) for each idea I actually act on. So, we’ll see how this goes, but I’m a fan of growth and it should result in that.
Did I Achieve My December Goals?
I try to keep my goals achievable. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. My performance on my December goals was so-so.
I didn’t finish my handmade presents, in part because my sewing machine broke. I’m working on getting it fixed, and the gifts are all cut out and ready to be sewn…
I did enjoy a lot of family – and friend – time.
We had a wonderful Christmas, complete with a few cheesy Christmas movies.
We didn’t declutter a ton before Christmas, but we’ve made progress since, so I’ll take that as win!
December threw a few curve balls at us (walking pneumonia was my least favorite, possibly followed by our washing machine breaking on New Year’s Eve). I also got to see my daughter Anna dance the part of Clara in a small Nutcracker production. It’s a memory I will always treasure, all the more because Lily also had a part in the show (Clara’s mother) and my husband made a hilarious mouse. So we had half the family on stage!
My Monthly Goals for January 2025
I have a few (hopefully realistic) goals for this month:
- Keep crafting and working on music projects.
- Enjoy a brief getaway with my husband.
- Enjoy having all four kids home this month – my oldest daughter has a long inter-term break.
- Hopefully get a couple of research abstracts out for my work research (with my fellow researchers). So far I’m really enjoying this new job.
- Blog more. Last month I only got one genuinely new non-goals post published, so this goal of doing more than that should be very doable. I need to act (word of the year, after all) and get more of those drafts sitting behind the scenes out into the world.
What are you hoping to accomplish this month?

I love your word of the year! I’m trying to figure out how I want to do something similar, but I need to plan how I will do it.
Getting kids home for Christmas break is such a nice feeling, I agree.
I hope you can get a mini-retreat with your husband this month, that would be fun!
We did manage a getaway last weekend. It was lovely!
