How did July Go?
What You'll Find on This Page
My goals for July were to organize and declutter, play music and craft, and blog. I got a single blog post published (not counting these goals posts). Not much, but that’s more than I’ve done in a while so I’ll take the win.
I played some music, sewed a lovely new bag, and continued my current quilt project.
I spent a lot of time organizing and decluttering. It’s a never-ending project, but I did make some real progress and I am happy about that.
My three older kids were all off on their own adventures: E to Rwanda this time, where she helped run a summer program. J went to a summer architecture program at a university across the bay from our house, and L to Italy on an art themed exchange trip. Mike was in Rwanda with E, so for a couple of weeks it was just me and A home. We had a lot of fun together, but the house felt huge! I’m still getting used to this teenage kids doing their own things stage of life.
Monthly Goals for August 2024
My three younger kids are currently on the trip of a lifetime, which I’ll write about soon. So that was our very fun start to August. As for goals, they include:
- Enjoy the rest of our trip. That will be easy!
- Get the three younger kids settled into a new school year
- Drop E off at college. I can’t believe I’m the parent of a college student, but I am excited to drive out with her.
- Crafting and music – it brings me joy.
- Blog!

What a wonderful approach to setting monthly goals! It sounds like July was productive, and I love how you’re focusing on enjoying your trip and preparing for the new school year in August. Dropping E off at college is such a big milestone—congratulations! Wishing you all the best with your crafting, music, and blogging goals this month!
Thank you!
Wow, how time flies. I hope E will settle well and enjoy her college experience!
So far so good – apart from a dorm plumbing emergency that flooded some rooms but thankfully not hers!
It really is weird how our kids being teens mean we actually have less time, I really don’t understand that. It would seem like it would actually be the opposite.
Right?! I think it’s because we need to be completely focused when we interact with them, and then their lives are so complex.
