Setting Goals for February 2026

Every month I set a few simple goals to add focus to my life. Here are my monthly goals for February 2026.

Setting monthly goals for February 2026

How was January 2026?

2026 is going to be a strange year. I don’t think anyone plans to get divorced, but I really didn’t. I actually thought our lives were about to get easier. Instead, I’m getting a crash course in California divorce law and spending a lot of time in mediation. It is, unfortunately, looking like a long and painful process. I don’t understand how to unravel a 24+ year marriage, let alone a 27+ year relationship.

I am getting to know the grief cycle so much more intimately than I ever would have wished.

January Goals – Reporting Back

I set very simple goals for January, and kept my head above water, for the most part. My classes are interesting, and I have friends from past classes in both. I was hired to work part time on a school research project (in addition to my not-school-related part time job, which is a different research project). So I’m busy, but with work that is interesting.

I’ve kept up with work, but music and sewing dropped down. I did finish this fun mixed media project that I started in the fall:

Mixed media crochet bag with a 3D printed base

After 3D printing the base, I single crocheted the first two or three rows, then switched to a double crochet with a single connecting each double for the rest of the bag. I just crocheted until I ran out of yarn. The end result is pretty fun!

I enjoyed lots of time with my kids in January, including phone calls with Emma who is away at college. For now, I’m with my kids all the time. I’m making the most of that for as long as it lasts.

Johnny is getting his first college offers, but waiting to hear back from other schools before making a final decision. It is a huge relief to have good options already. Lily went back to our public school, where she is loving an English class that gets her ahead on writing her own college essays (she’ll be a senior in the fall). She does miss the extra free time that comes with homeschooling, but she enjoys having more time with her peers. Anna is still homeschooling, which seems to suit her well and makes more time for the ballet she loves. She teaches little kid ballet once a week, and she always comes home from those classes with fun stories.

Setting Goals for February 2026

I’ll keep my February goals basic.

  • Enjoy my kids. They are awesome.
  • Celebrate Emma’s 20th birthday! She’ll be away at school, so I’ll have to get creative here.
  • Stay on top of classes and work
  • Enjoy our pets. They are excellent reminders that life goes on.
  • Survive divorce stuff.
  • Make time for music and sewing where I can. I find both activities deeply therapeutic.
  • Write up a blog post about a dress Lily sewed for Halloween in 2024. It’s been sitting in my drafts folder for too long, and if I write about it here it will hopefully actually happen!

What does February look like for you? What are you hoping to accomplish this month?

  1. I’m sending you hugs. I am so very sorry that you are having to go through this.
I know I said it when you shared the purse on social media, but I still love how it turned out. The 3D printed base was a brilliant idea and the crocheted bag just makes it fun.
