This giveaway is now closed. Congratulations, Natalie!
Emma and Lily love ballet – just like many other little girls. Johnny actually thinks it’s quite nice, too, in small doses. So far, however, Emma’s interest in ballet does not extend to taking classes. We’ve gone to several test classes, and every time she says she just wants to wear her tutu and dance at home. So that’s what we do.
The Prima Princessa DVDs are perfect for this! We have been watching the Swan Lake DVD ever since we reviewed it last year, and this year we were lucky enough to receive copies of both Sleeping Beauty and The Nutcracker to add to our collection. The DVDs alternate between showing clips of the ballets (danced by professional dancers) with clips of young children attending a party where they watch the ballet and clips of ballet students demonstrating steps. It’s a fun introduction to ballet that I think children who are taking ballet lessons would also enjoy. It’s ballet enrichment, rather than ballet instruction – although Emma has learned the names of various ballet moves, and likes to hold “ballet class” for Johnny and Lily were they practice doing “big plies” and “tiny plies”. Johnny refuses to watch The Nutcracker because he is scared by the mice fighting in the beginning. Actually, all three ballets have their frightening moments, but I guess the giant mice is the visual that sets him off.

Thanks for following my blog! I like coloring pages too! My girls love dance. I have two with pointe shoes and one more who will get hers later this year. I don’t know how that happened…I’ve never been a dancer.

I meant to comment on the DVD’s in my previous comment. Savvy enjoys watching dance DVD’s at copying the dancers. I am not familiar with these particular DVD’s but am off to check them out.
I understand this giveaway is only open to residents of the US and Canada – it’s way too expensive to post down here!
We’ve been to a few trial lessons too! Savvy is interested in having ballet shoes but not keen to do a class. Like you, we dance at home…. with ‘real” ballet shoes.
Anna refused my suggestion to go see Nutcracker this year – she claimed the same thing as Johnny. In our version of Nutcracker The Mouse King actually died, and Anna didn’t like that at all. But I think she would love a DVD! I was interested to see which ballet schools we have in the area – not sure that daughter is a ballet material, but who knows what she wants to do in the future :)
I like the printable coloring pages. One of my girls insists she wants to be a ballerina when she grows up so I know she would love this DVD.
My Emma is just now wanting to actually start taking classes. She would love this! I love all the ballet resources they have on their blog.
I have to admit I’m rather amused by their blog, which is a lot of snacks and a few crafts.
