At some point in my childhood, I remember playing with a toy that was suspended in the middle of a string. You spun the string around and around to twist it up, and then watched the toy spin as you pulled the two ends of the string apart. Fyrflyz is that toy, with the very clever addition of LED lights, so I was thrilled when MomSelect offered me the opportunity to give it a try!
My kids are considerably younger than the 8-12-year-old recommended age range, but Emma and Johnny still had a blast with it! BECAUSE they are so young, the string was a little long – see how Emma is leaning her head back in that top right photo in particular because she thinks the toy is going to hit her? Don’t worry, it never did! I doubled the string over the handle so that Johnny could have a go at spinning it:

Johnny didn’t have as much control over the spinning, so he didn’t get quite the ornate patterns Emma was able to produce. He sure had fun, though! Then Mike tried spinning two Fyrflyz together:

Mike and I both intuitively spun it up as much as possible, then pulled it apart and mostly only got a quickly-spinning circle of lights. After watching Emma, I learned that the best way to do it is to spin it moderately slowly, and then pull apart gently. Then spin it up the opposite direction the next time round. I love that being a parent gives me an excuse to play with toys again!
Would you (or your kids) like to play with one of these! Fyrflyz is offering to send one US reader of this blog a Fyrflyz to try out for themselves! To enter, just leave a comment by September 9th saying you would like to be entered – and tell me which of the patterns we photographed you like the most! Would love to be entered. Love the top left one of Emma.
I like the first 2 patterns that Emma made the best. That looks like a lot of fun!
I’d love to play with this and I bet JC would enjoy watching. I like the flower design.
I would like one of these. I think Johnny’s first one looks very good – like a neon butterfly.
It sounds like a lot of fun. My favorite is a top flower pattern by Emma :) It’s fun that you can already learn from her.
Abby would love this. That first pattern that Emma made is so cool!
I think all the patterns are fantastic, but I like Johnny’s first one best I think.
My kids would have so much fun with these! I would love to be entered! I love the top left pattern Emma is making. Great photos, by the way.
