Pumpkin chocolate chip cookies are my favorite dessert – and a fantastic use for pumpkin puree! I just had to share this favorite pumpkin chocolate chip cookie recipe when I learned that pumpkins are this week’s Virtual Book Club for Kids theme. Five Little Pumpkins by Dan Yaccarino is this week’s book.

Our weekly menu is much more diverse these days (thankfully!), but these cookies are still a treat! Here’s my recipe:

Our Gluten Free Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe

  • 2 c. flour. We use Cup 4 Cup gluten free flour. They cookies taste great and have a wonderful chewy texture, too!
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tbsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp. ginger
  • 1/2 c. butter
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/2 c. pumpkin puree
  • 1 c. chocolate chips

Beat butter, sugar and eggs till fluffy. Beat in pumpkin. Then beat in dry ingredients just until combined. Stir in chocolate chips.
Drop by tablespoonfuls, two inches apart, onto cookie sheets lined with parchment paper.
Bake at 350 F, 12-15 minutes, or until golden. Makes about 3 dozen.

Have you tried Costco’s new Kirkland Signature chocolate chips? I’m a fan!

  1. These look wonderful and I’d love to give them a try but we can’t get pumpkin puree in the shops around here. Can I just boil a piece of pumpkin and mash it for the same result?

  2. Don’t know if you will answer this or not but I was wondering if canned pumpkin is the same as making fresh pumpkin? I don’t bake much…my Mom does the baking and I do the cooking! It works out well but this recipe looks amazing and not too hard. I want to try it, as pumpkin is my Momma’s favorite and I want to surprise her with something that I baked!!! Thanks in advance!!!

    1. You can use canned pumpkin or freshly cooked pumpkin puree for this recipe. Just make sure if you use canned that it is pumpkin, and not pumpkin pie filling. Good luck with your baking, and I hope you like these cookies!

  3. I have never tried anything with pumpkin puree before, but the recipe looks very yummy. Maybe I’ll be adventurous and try them for Thanksgiving dinner.

  4. I made these a few minutes ago. Yummy. I did make a few changes. I melted the butter and let it cool and I added a half of cup of flour on top of the two cups. They turned out well. The smell woke my hubby up from his nap to be my taste tester. My neighbor also loves them! Thank you for sharing. This is a keeper!

    1. I’m so glad they turned out well! I sometimes melt the butter to make it a little easier to mix; I’ll have to try adding a half cup of extra flour to see if I like it better.

  5. i found your blog through a twitter comment! I have almost the same recipe that I made last week and they were so good!

I have never tried pumpkin and chocolate together! Love your newly-married cooking staples. :) :)

  7. Yum – I’ve never tried pumpkin and chocolate together but I have a huge pumpkin sitting in my kitchen just waiting to be cooked and pureed for Thanksgiving pumpkin bread and a new pumpkin cupcake recipe I want to try. There will be plenty left over for our favorite treat (pumpkin fritters) and we might have to try your cookies too.

  8. I have a completely decadent pumpkin chocolate chip cookie recipe that calls for cream cheese frosting. They are good on their own, but with the frosting it is AMAZING!! I love pumpkin and chocolate together, in muffins, bread, cookies. Anything I can stuff in my face where it may go straight to my expanding middle section…

  9. Oh my gosh these sound yummy! I make chocolate chip pumpkin muffins and I probably gain 5 pounds because I eat the whole batch by myself! I’ve never tried making the cookies before.
