My daughter LOVES play dates. We have a lot of free play play dates, but sometimes it is fun to have a structured activity ready. I find that this is especially true for play dates with friends who we don’t know very well. This is an easy play date activity that kids love!
Easy Play Date Fun: Host a Play Dough Party!
What You'll Find on This Page
Last Monday I sent out emails to several mom friends inviting them to an impromptu play dough party at our house on Saturday. A bunch of Emma’s friends showed up, and we made three different colors of play dough using this play dough recipe. We skipped the stovetop part, though, using boiling water instead followed by 30 seconds in the microwave.
The kids loved this play dough party play date! Emma got lots of inspiration of new things to make with play dough from her friends, and each friend got some play dough to take home as a party favor! It’s a simple play date activity idea that I know we will be using again.

@Susana – This kind is REALLY nice – I think I actually prefer it over the store-bought type =)
I will be trying this too:-). I’ve never heard of a recipe like this, and my kids don’t like the traditional homemade play-doh recipe. Thanks (again!).

Play doh party sounds fun & interesting :-) It’s good to train kids’ imagination :-)
@Ticia – A water party would be VERY popular in this heat!
@Quadmama – It is a lot like the storebought kind, but it does seem to clean up better, possibly because it dries out a little faster? I don’t know that there’s much solution for the pieces everywhere problem, though!
Is it easier to clean up than the store bought kind? LOL For some reason I always find bits of play dough EVERYWHERE for days after we use it.

Fun activity, and it makes me want to make my own playdoh too. The one I tried so far was the salt type, and I didn’t like it because it was so drying.

@Natalie – this kind is very similar to store-bought play doh, only softer. I think you should definitely give it a try!
What a fun idea. I should try this. Actually, I’m also thinking of a water party of some sort, so maybe that first.

@Jaimie – I know what you mean! I definitely took my time trying the homemade kind, and then wondered why I hadn’t done it sooner. It was a super fun, easy party =)
What a great, easy idea for a party! Homemade playdough is the best. Ever since we tried it in December, I can’t bring myself to use the packaged kind.
