How to Sew a Mini Stocking Ornament
What You'll Find on This Page
This stocking ornament is easy to sew, and comes together quickly. All you need are a few basic materials:
- Fleece or felt. Felt is much easier to sew by hand, but Fleece is great if you have a sewing machine. I used fleece for this project.
- Sewing machine with a zig zag stitch
- Scissors
- The pattern (download here)
- Embroidery floss and an embroidery needle
Stocking Sewing Tutorial
This stocking is intentionally super simple, even if you get sloppy and have to re-stitch a seam, like this:

Cut out the stocking pattern on the fold, as shown on the pattern. Stitch all the way around (except the top, which needs to stay open) wiith a zigzag stitch.

Turnt the stocking right side out, and then fold the top bit down into the stocking. You can stitch around at this point; I did not.

Now you are ready to hang your stocking! I used embroidery floss. After checking a few colors, I decided that it worked best to go with a shade of red that was slightly darker than the fabric.

I cut a length of embroidery floss (maybe 20 inches?), folded it in half, and threaded both ends through an embroidery needle:

Thread the needle through the top of the stocking, and run the thread through the loop at the end so that it is securely attached to your stocking.

Tie a bow at the top, and your stocking is ready to hang on your tree!

Fill with little notes, Christmas carols to sing, Hershey’s kisses or other treats, or any other small surprise. Or simply hang them as decorations.
