Understanding math is an incredibly valuable life skill, but all too often it is a dreaded subject in school. This culture of fear of math in the United States is so strong that even students in advanced university math courses feel that they “aren’t actually any good at math”. I am a big fan of Carol Dweck‘s growth mindset research. I also think that we see math as a serious subject, when, in fact, it can be a lot of fun. Children who see the fun of math are much more likely to engage curiously in math lessons in school. Today I’m sharing some fun math games and activities that will keep kids curious and even laughing and smiling as they develop math skills. Raising kids who love math is possible for any family!

This post is such a great resource!
I am a big fan of growth mindset, but not a big fan of a twisted interpretation of it coming from Stanford :) Basically, Jo Boaler says that nobody is gifted in math, it’s all just exposure. While exposure is important (and you have great ideas for it in this post), I beg to differ and say that some kids see more fun in math than others.
That is actually not what she says. She admits that there can be a genetic predisposition to giftedness, but she says that these differences are eclipsed by life experiences. See, for example, this article: https://www.youcubed.org/think-it-up/ideas-of-giftedness-hurt-students/
Great list! thanks!
Great list of math games!
So many great activities to explore numbers and math concepts with kids!
