Light-up Bugs STEM Activity for Kids
Emma, Johnny, and Lily made these light-up bugs at one of our science coop classes. Actually, I mostly made them, but they helped quite enthusiastically. There’s a C battery and some wire under all the bug trappings, and the light you see is a flashlight lighbulb. Everything is held together with a little sticky tack. Lily’s bug only gets to have one eye, per Lily’s adamant opinion. Click through this link to learn how to make these light-up bugs.
I don’t know how much learning my kids will retain from this activity, but they think their bugs are super cool!

Maybe the science part of this was not bugs, but batteries and lights, but the results look great. Lily must be the youngest scientist ever.

Those are really cute buggies!
@Mike – Thanks sweetie! =)
That’s awesome! I think it’s hilarious that Lily insisted her bug have only one eye. She’s looking so grown up holding your collaborative creation.

@Elisa – I love that she already knows what she wants and likes!
@Natalie – One benefit of having two older siblings =)
I’d love instructions on that if you have it
@Ticia – I’ll see if I can write them up…
I cannot believe Lily made her own bug! I am super impressed–WOW!
These bugs are adorable. Joe would love this!

Lily and Blake would make a fine pair – he also is very adamant about putting one eye on his creations too!
What a novel idea to include a flashlight lightbulb into this craft. They certainly are the cutest bugs I have ever seen.

@Elise – Thank you! And, I would love to get our kids together, if only that were possible!
@Susana – Lily just watched me (apart form putting the eye on and removing the second eye I tried to add), but she definitely considers the bug hers, and is very proud of it!
