This week six-year-old Emma learned how to weave using a simple cardboard loom! Susan from Rainbow Creations very kindly sent us a simple cardboard loom and some plastic sewing needles after seeing my blog post about dying yarn with Kool-Aid. This made a great weaving setup for kids! I set the loom up and did the first couple of rows, and Emma took it from there.
She decided to use the finished product to make a baby carrier. I love the idea of a baby-wearing Barbie!

I am a huge advocate for baby wearing. At church I’m known as “that sister with the sling.” Anyway, I love that your little one made a sling for her doll. So sweet!

Right now my two year old is really into bigger puzzles, like the 25-piece ones. I love leaving him to his thoughts as he tries to piece them together. He’s also really into crayons, which I don’t think kids ever grow out of. I actually thought for a while there that he just wasn’t into them, but then these past few months, I just set him up with large paper on his little table and he’s been scribbling like crazy. Every new sheet shows a different crayon style, from large, heavy strokes to smaller colors to coloring with the crayon on its side.
Your son’s crayon art sounds fantastic! I love watching kids draw, especially when they experiment with different styles like this!
I had a weaving loom kit as a child and loved it. I wonder why I’ve never thought to introduce something like this to my girls? Thanks for the reminder!

I used to do cardboard loom weaving with my middle school students. They loved it. And ya know when we did that lesson, it was the most peaceful times in my classroom. They all just really got into the rhythm of the weaving!
