June Goals for 2015

Setting goals for family fun in June 2015

May was as busy as I expected it to be, and I did great on some goals and still need to work on a couple. We had a nice visit with Mike’s sister, and our silkworms grew, created cocoons, and then emerged as moths. They are now laying hundreds of silkworm eggs that I am not quite sure what we will do with. And the poor unpaired silk moth is a sad sight. We contributed to class teacher gifts, but my kids still need to write thank you notes this weekend. My desk is much tidier, but not completely organized. Not my most impressive month, goals-wise. I did have fun helping Lily plan her birthday party (which is today), and I started walking/running a 5-mile loop on a somewhat regular basis. I started off doing it every day, and then walked/ran/didn’t sleep enough/struggled with allergies my way into exhaustion, so I’m trying to take a more balanced approach going forward, at least until I resolve Anna’s current sleep issues. On to June goals for 2015…

June is a busy month! Here are my goals:

  • Enjoy a visit with Mike’s mom and aunt. Character trait: thankful
  • Celebrate our 14-year anniversary. Character trait: thankful
  • Have the kids write thank you notes to teachers – this weekend, since school is ending next week! Character trait: thankful
  • Keep my desk organized, and hopefully improve organization. Character trait: helpful
  • Figure out what to do with so many silkworm eggs. I did at least buy them food (baby silkworms can’t eat mulberry leaves unless they are brand new mulberry leaves, which you won’t find in June or July if these hatch right away), but feeding them doesn’t do any good if I don’t have somewhere for them to go as they get older. Character trait: curious and kind
  • Settle our family into a summer vacation rhythm. The kids have some activities the first couple of weeks, which will ease our way out of school – then they are home all day every day with me. I’m looking forward to it! I also know that I need to set up some structure to make the most of our time together. I just need to balance learning with fun and open exploration and rest time. Character trait: curious and helpful and kind.

  1. Yeah for 14 years. That is great. My husband and I just had 18 years this year. I hope you anniversary was great.

I always like you have themes for your goals! Did you find the leaves?

  2. I wonder if you can give them away on Freecycle (the silkworm eggs). Have you tried the Netti pot for your allergies? It’s been a wonder for my allergy to pollen. Hope you feel better soon from your allergies! June sounds like a lovely month with some downtime!

    1. I do use the Neti pot, and it definitely helps, but there were two weeks this year where I was really struggling no matter what I did! Things are better now, at least.

I am probably going to post the silkworm eggs, and hope I get some takers.

Happy upcoming anniversary! We are starting on braces in June – I am nervous about that, but A is excited. I suppose they are a sign of maturity to her :)

  5. Happy Anniversary! I wanted to say that I love your system of adding the character trait for each goal! I’m going to start implementing that with my family’s monthly goals- great idea, thank you! Also, my daughter is a lover of all worms (and other strange critters)- perhaps you can ship some to NJ! :)

I made myself ill when I tried running for exercise as an adult (3 years ago now!) – finding a good workout is so tough. I bought a kettlebell because I heard kettlebell swings were an effective, fast workout, but I again over-estimated what I could handle and bought one that was too heavy. The search for the perfect workout continues!

How fascinating that baby silkworms can only eat baby mulberry leaves!

Happy birthday to Lily and congratulations on your anniversary!! I know you will enjoy extra time with your kids!! :)

    1. It is a little reassuring to hear that I am not the only person who does this with exercise. The walk/run route is a reasonable one for me provided I get a reasonable amount of sleep and have allergies under control, but I learned the hard way that without those two things taken care of it is not a good idea.

  7. Survival! It’s going to be a hectic month, but June always is, however usually June is coming off a fairly rested May, and that didn’t happen this year.
