DIY Felt Snowman Ornament
What You'll Find on This Page
We created these snowman ornaments after making our snowman hand puppet.
It all started with my daughter look at the snowman hand puppet pieces, and realizing that they could be perfect for decorating small snowmen.
We cut out a second set of shapes using felt, and then she added five snowmen cut out of some white fleece we happened to have on hand from sewing these fleece snowballs. Felt would also work for the snowman bodies, but the fleece does look fluffy like snow.
She cut rectangles first (shown stacked above) for the snowman bodies, and then made cuts in the corner and the middle to created a rounded two-ball-body snowman.
Tacky glue worked well to glue everything together.
They looked so cute, all lined up!
Adding Hooks to Our Snowman Ornaments
I thought about using thread to hang the snowmen, but then remembered that I had 28 gauge craft wire.
I simply poked the wire through the top of the hat. For the first few snowmen I made rings like you can see in the photo below, but after that I realized that hooks worked just as well and were easier to shape.
With the hooks, I just made a little loop to hold it in place on the backside of the hat, and a larger hook to place over the tree.
These little snowmen are perfect for our Christmas tree, which is always covered in handmade ornaments that we have collected over the years.
