Favorite Reads: Jan Brett’s Christmas Treasury

Jan Brett Christmas Treasury

My mother gave us Jan Brett’s Christmas Treasury the Christmas Johnny was born. It is one of Emma’s all-time favorite books, all year round. Emma will happily sit through all seven stories: The Mitten, The Wild Christmas Reindeer, Trouble with Trolls, The Twelve Days of Christmas, The Hat, Christmas Trolls, and The Night Before Christmas. Christmas Trolls is Emma’s current favorite story, I suspect because it features a Dala Horse just like the one we have from the years my parents spent in Sweden (she likes to hold the horse while we read the story). I love that this story emphasizes the importance of giving over receiving.

I also love the many, many activities available for free on Jan Brett’s website!

  1. Today Quinn hid my hat (which my grandma knit) in the garden. I quickly found it and we joked that no animals should hide in it and make it gigantic as in THe Mitten. :)

  2. I’ve never heard of Jan Brett. Looks like a precious book. I’ll have to look for it while we’re out today.

    Merry Christmas!

  3. I love Jan Brett illustrations, but so far the only story of hers that Anna warmed up to was Gingerbread Baby. She didn’t like her version of The Night Before Christmas. Hopefully she will learn to appreciate others as well with time.
