Wanted: The Perfect Pet was a BIG hit in our house this week! Emma brought it to me after reading it with Mike, saying “This is a GREAT book!” I thoroughly enjoyed the story, and it’s been the most-requested repeat read all week. A duck responds to an ad for a dog, and it only gets better from there =)

I’m pretty sure I found this book through the What My Child Is Reading linky, but I couldn’t remember where. If you know, please let me know in the comments and I’ll link over!

Share and Take Turns (Learning to Get Along, Book 1) is a book I picked out for the kids, because sharing has been a real challenge for Emma especially lately. This book discusses sharing thoroughly yet in simple terms, and all three kids enjoy reading the book – thanks to both the engaging illustrations and the straightforward text. I liked the book enough to request several others in this series from our library, and it has been a nice springboard for discussing sharing issues.

The Gifts of Imperfection: Let Go of Who You Think You’re Supposed to Be and Embrace Who You Are is obviously a book for me, not the kids. I was slightly off-put by the tone at the beginning of the book, but it was sent to me by my mom and I trust her judgment on books, so I read on. And both enjoyed and learned from it. To quote Brown, it describes “A movement where we can take to the streets with our messy, imperfect, wild, stretch-marked, wonderful, heartbreaking, grace-filled, and joyful lives. A movement fueled by the freedom that comes when we stop pretending that everything is okay when it isn’t. A call that rises up from our bellies when we find the courage to celebrate those intensely joyful moments even though we’ve convinced ourselves that savoring happiness is inviting disaster.” Curious? Read the book! =)

Oh, The Gifts of Imperfection… we must be on the same wavelength. I’ve been reading Life is Too Short to Fold Fitted Sheets this week! A GREAT read — highly recommend! Also I need to check out Wanted: The Perfect Pet. Sounds like it would be a big hit here! :-)

    1. I’ll have to look for Life is Too Short to Fold Fitted Sheets – love the title =)

I think your girls would LOVE Wanted: The Perfect Pet!

  3. I’m intrigued by the imperfection book. That is something I strive to do, as no one is perfect and especially with kids there is just no way to have a perfect life/house/whatever. I find that reading blogs is hard to do sometimes because people try so hard to make the pictures look perfect and the parties look perfect and the nurseries look perfect. That’s why I love real family blogs that show the ups/downs/messiness/craziness of what it’s really like. I will have to check it out!!

I liked seeing what you’re reading! That first book sounds hilarious. :)

  5. Oh, I have a book I should mail to you. It’s called something like “Emma’s Perfect Pet,” and I found it at Half Price Books awhile ago, it’s just the cutest book.

  6. I’ll be hitting our library’s website shortly for that first book!! Looks adorable!!

And a book about embracing imperfection? Why on earth would I want to read that when I’m practically perfect in every way?? Seriously though – did you hear my feet hitting the ground as I run to the bookstore to find this book?? LOL!

    Thanks for sharing!
