Rosie’s Ballet Slippers was Emma’s pick when friend of mine ran an impromptu storytime during a library meet-up. She pulled it off the shelf and loved the story so much that we brought it home. The story is cute, but the illustrations are what I find most appealing about this book. They are beautifully rendered and full of detail, right down to the reflections in the mirrors during the ballet class.

I Can Draw People (Usborne Playtime) was one of several books on drawing that I borrowed from the library for Emma. The other were too advanced, but she has really enjoyed this one, and it has gotten her thinking creatively about drawing different animals and people.

WhentheTeddyBearsCame

I’ve been a fan of Martin Waddell since Emma was a baby, and I am always impressed by the beautiful illustrations in his books (done in this case by Penny Dale). When the Teddy Bears Came deals gently with a young boy being (very temporarily) pushed aside in the excitement over the arrival of a baby sister.

BabysBoat

All three kids really enjoy Jeanne Titherington’s Baby’s Boat. I find the verse in this book is best enjoyed sung, but to my knowledge it wasn’t written as a song. Titherington used her baby daughter Anna as the model for this book, and she did a beautiful job of capturing a little baby’s expressions and movements.

  3. Thanks for joining WMCIR! We haven’t read any of your picks, but I checked out I Can Draw Animals from the same series before and liked it a lot. Even I could draw a few animals following the instructions, and it says a lot :) I still plan to get those books for Anna when she is a little older.
