Emma’s illustration to help Johnny remember how to properly form an “8”. Draw an “S” and close the gate, because if you forget to close the gate, your dog will get out!
After-dinner quiz time with Dad:
Mike/Dada: Name an animal like a snail, but without a shell.
Lily: Me!
Mike/Dada: Name an impressionist painter!
Emma: Monet.
Lily: Snowman!
Mike, explaining that he’s getting his wisdom teeth out:
Mike/Dada: On Friday, I’m going to the doctor, and they are going to take out four [five, actually, but he didn’t know it at the time] of my teeth.
Johnny (excited): That’s amazing!!!
In the car on the way to school. Emma and her carpool buddy A are reading Madeline:
Emma (reading): In two straight lines they broke their bread… [to A] They don’t eat anything!
A: Why don’t they eat?
Emma: They just break their food; they don’t eat it!

This is awesome. I love the games Mike plays with the kids.
I really should record the kids quotes like you do…I love it!
Love it!
Emma is such the perfect little teacher. How adorable!
LOVE the illustration! Emma is amazing. And Lily’s quiz time answer is too funny! Does Mike just think up the questions off the top of his head? I hope he is feeling better after getting 5 teeth removed…
I think the questions are usually tied to the non-fiction books he reads to them at bedtime.
Mike is doing better, but still can’t eat much, has chipmunk cheeks, and had to take today off work. The side of his jaw that had three teeth is much worse than the other side – I’m glad I only had four (and had them taken out years ago)!
I love the explanation for the picture. That is so cute!
Ahhh yes, closing the gate when you make an 8. I’m receiving lots of “kindergarten instructions” on how to make my letters and numbers (apparently I don’t do a lot of them the right way!)
I love the Madeline conversation! The illustration is cute.
