A few weeks ago, we borrowed How to Draw Dinosaurs (Kid’s Guide to Drawing) from the library. Emma (5.5) and Johnny (3.5) kids LOVE this book! The dinosaurs are broken down into simple shapes that even a three-year-old can draw:
Emma chose to color hers in. And then hid her drawings somewhere precious, before I could get a proper photo!
Johnny kept his simple, but very expressive:
Older kids would love this book, too – they could move on to the more complicated steps that incorporate more realistic details!

I was not sure whether such books would hold my daughter’s interest but reading your post, I decided to give it a try.Looks like your little ones really enjoyed it. As always thanks for linking up to Book Sharing Monday!xxx
This one was particularly well done, but they have enjoyed other similar books as well =)
I love how to draw books…I need them…my kids seem to want to use their heads more…but if I don’t have an idea to look at, I’m lost! =0
Me too!
I love the top “thinking” photo. So sweet.
That looks cute. My 3 year old is just becoming interested in creating representational drawings. Maybe I could learn something about drawing, too :) Your kids did great! What artists!
Looks like a great book! And very special drawings, too.
What sweet drawings!
Visiting you from Book Sharing Monday ;-)
I have to look for this. C loves drawing and loves dinosaurs!
He’ll love it! It really is nicely done =)
Awesome drawings! I remember books similar to this when I was young. I’ve always loved the step by step when it comes to drawing and painting!
Those drawings are so cute. I think about getting a book like this every so often–I wonder how it would go over in our house.
This was by far the most successful one out of several we’ve tried. Not sure how much of it is the book and how much of it is the kids getting a bit older…
What adorable dinosaurs! I love te expression on Johnny’s and the stegosaurus (I think) in the corner of Emma’s drawing. And that picture of Johnny looking so carefully at the instructions is priceless!
Johnny’s thinking face is so sweet as he contamplates the task at hand.
We love books like this too.
I’ve just been catching up on your last few posts and had a good chuckle when I saw Johnny’s stroller – fabulous indeed!
The picture of Johnny thinking while holding his pen is priceless. What great artists he and Emma are!
This is awesome – both Johnny and Emma are growing to be artists. You know, we have some of the books like this, but neither Anna nor I could ever really use them :)
They did a great job! We might look for that one.
My kids have somewhere precious to hide books as well. It’s rather amusing to me.
Oh, I’ll have to look for that. I’ve been looking for simple drawing books, but most seem too advanced for even my almost-7-year-old.
