Our review of Disney On Ice presents Mickey’s Search Party
What You'll Find on This Page
This was our third time going to Disney On Ice. And wow, it gets better every year! This year featured amazing ice stunts, fantastic storytelling, and some very fun ways to involve the audience. My favorite audience involvement activity was an enormous ball that audience members passed around the arena where the event was held to put it away in a toy box. We didn’t wind up touching the ball, but lots of other people did!
What is the plot of Mickey’s Search Party?
Disney uses a very simple plot to pull together this particular show. Captain Hook traps Tinkerbell at the beginning of the show. The audience then travels with Mickey, Minnie, and their friends through various Disney shows to collect enough magic to free Tinkerbell.
We visited Toy Story, where we collected magic by putting that gigantic ball I mentioned into its toybox.
I found the above Moana scene very trouching. The magic happened with the dramatic volcano below, with Moana restoring the heart of Te Fiti.
I don’t actually remember what the magic was for the other locations. I have my guesses, that I’ll share below, but it doesn’t really matter. It’s all about the dazzle. The audience helps solve riddles to figure out the next destination along the way.
Amazing Stunts at Disney On Ice presents Mickey’s Search Party
I think the Little Mermaid magic was maybe a kiss? But I was completely dazzled by the aerial stunts, as well as the sea creature costumes.
In Beauty and the Beast the magic may have been feeding Belle? I was once again too dazzled by aerial shows to keep track. You can see why in the 2nd and 7th highlights slide from my Instagram post below.
Riding down ramps in ice skates? Doing flips on ice skates??? I had never seen anything like it.
You can’t have a Disney On Ice show without Elsa…
And you can’t have Elsa without Olaf! Or Anna, although she didn’t make it into my photos (sorry, Anna!)
Sisterly love was the magic from Frozen, I do remember that.
I don’t know what the magic was for Coco, but these enormous puppets were amazing.
How to Plan for a Disney On Ice Outing
Disney on ice is a serious outing! Our show at the SAP arena in San Jose only allowed in very tiny bags, with slightly larger bags allowed if they were see through. Exceptions were made for people with diaper bags; they just double inspected those. I only brought in my phone and wallet.
How Long is a Disney On Ice Show?
Our show (Disney On Ice presents Mickey’s Search Party) lasted just about two hours, including intermission. The show holds your child’s attention, whether they are tiny or teenagers. We went on Emma’s 14th birthday, and she loved celebrating that way! Preschoolers do make up most of the audience That’s a bit of a shame, because you have to be older to appreciate a lot of the stunts. I find it fascinating as an adult.
I think it’s important to know as a parent going in that they will be selling a lot of stuff: toys, food, and treats. Make a plan with your child before you go about whether you are spending money beyond the price of the tickets, and if so, how much and on what.
Most importantly, planned to be entertained, and enjoy watching your child’s reactions to the show!

That looks amazing and so much fun!
We haven’t done any shows like that. All shows that big are in downtown Austin, and I’m not a fan of driving into Austin traffic, especially at night.
I can understand that! I avoid San Francisco driving whenever possible.
I’ve not heard of this, what fun.
