Desert Tortoises

Lily admires a baby tortoise

Many years ago, a pair of desert tortoises took up residence in Mike’s grandparents’ back yard in Las Vegas. They’ve lived there ever since, and Johnny and Lily especially enjoyed admiring the newest additions to their ever-growing family.

Johnny carefully holds a baby tortoise

Johnny was thrilled to hold this baby tortoise! I was very impressed by how gentle he was with it.

The baby tortoises enjoy their lunch

Mike’s aunt is a vet, and she has helped them look after the tortoises. Aren’t these babies cute?

Happy Earth Day!

  1. I LOVE these pictures and the looks on the kids faces! And, yes, the tortoises are very cute! I know the kids were fascinated.

  2. Too funny about dessert tortoises in the comments. Great shots – what a great experience for your kids.

    1. It was SO neat to see how excited Johnny and Lily especially were about these tiny little tortoises!

Very cute, and a great size for kiddos! Johnny and Lily both look very interested and delighted.

  4. Ok, lesson learned. I need to drink my coffee first before reading blog posts. I saw the first picture and quickly read the title and thought it said “Dessert Tortoises”…..like the chocolate turtles….and thought….wow, she’s really good.

    Then I read on……

    I laughed at myself…..

Very cute pictures though — even though the turtles aren’t covered in chocolate!
