We’ve Moved!

What You'll Find on This Page

My November goals were very simple: pack, move, unpack, and enjoy Thanksgiving dinner somewhere in the middle of all of that. Thanksgiving dinner was lovely, thanks to friends who invited our family over for dinner! We packed, moved, and I would say we are maybe halfway unpacked. Friends were amazing with helping to pack us up, helping with moving, making soup, and even taking the kids to see Wonder one day. The world runs on kindness, and we are so grateful for all of the kind people in our life.

The house is lovely – no shared walls, a yard, and neighbors we’ve known since we were students! We’ve got a few new house woes. It took about a week to get internet in, and we had one exciting day when all the sewage backed up into the shower. I’m just glad it stayed IN the shower. Luckily it was a quick fix of some street-level setting. We still have no working heating. I’m very grateful that California has a mild climate! I’ll also be thrilled to get it working, though. I’m told someone will come look at it Monday, so we’ll bundle up a bit over the weekend and then hopefully be warm.

Setting goals for December 2017

December 2017 Goals

December is busy! We have kids’ choir concerts, Johnny’s birthday party, and all of that unpacking left to do. I finally found Emma and Anna’s stacking beds in stock at IKEA (fourth try!), but I haven’t built them yet. Mike is traveling for most of the month, to add to he excitement. We’re planning a simple and quiet Christmas, and I think it will be a welcome respite! These are my goals:

  • Finish unpacking. Gratitude and mindful living.
  • Figure out a way to finish our back yard. It’s currently very wet clay. Education and gratitude.
  • Enjoy Christmas. Gratitude and mindful living.

So excited for you! Having your own home is magical even when it’s also challenging due to all homeowner’s expenses. I hope you enjoy December and Christmas in your new home.

  2. This is so exciting! Though perhaps a bit too exciting in some ways – Mike being gone and no heating and sewage ewwww…

Hope the unpacking and settling in goes joyfully!

I’ll be interested to see what you do with your back garden. We have a similar situation though ours is all sand (very very dirty sand). We actually mix clay into our sand to enable it to grow things. Do you add sand to your clay?

  3. Please post photos of your new house when you get a chance! And a description of how the space is being used (how many kids’ rooms, homeschool room, etc, like you did in your old house).

    Merry Christmas!
