I love our Christmas tree! It’s covered with ornaments made by the kids over the years, clumped together because that’s the way kids decorate trees. There are a few store-bought ornaments in there as well, given to us as gifts from family members. Here are a few of my favorite kid made ornaments!
The snow man above was made by Lily at preschool last year. The snowman’s body is a paint stirring stick, his hat brim is a popsicle stick painted black, and then he is adorned with paint, permanent marker, a ribbon, googly eyes, and a few glued-on buttons.
If you look in the top left of this photo, you can spot one of our salt dough Christmas ornaments! I think it’s time to make a few more of those – instructions are in the link, if you would like to make a few of your own!
This foil-covered star was our tree topper a few years ago. You can see bits of little wooden ornaments that Emma and Johnny painted back in 2009. That was back when I was a brand-new blogger! They painted the ornaments after Christmas, when I found them on clearance.
Emma’s first grade teacher helped her make this foil star! She is wearing her 15 minute dress-up gown for the photo!
I adore this handprint ornament that I made with Anna last Christmas! Click through the link to see better photos (our home here is a cave, and I haven’t figured out how to compensate for photos!) as well as a video. I can’t believe how much larger Anna’s hand is this Christmas – kids grow up so quickly!
Our tree also has some of the kids sewn and colored ornaments, simple jingle bell ornaments, one of our simple cereal box ornaments, and even a length of the paper chain that was my kids’ first-ever Christmas craft! I love reliving these creative afternoons with the kids as we decorate our tree and enjoy it throughout the holiday season!
What are your favorite homemade ornaments? Do you still have ornaments from your childhood?
This post is part of the 20 Days of a Kid-Made Christmas series. Every day until Christmas, several of my favorite kid bloggers are sharing their favorite kid-made ornament ideas!
