My three girls have been reading Little House in the Big Woods together this fall, so they were delighted when The Queen’s Treasures emailed me, offering to send some items to review. We already own their Laura doll, so the girls picked out a few accessories. They picked a day dress for Laura, the cooking set, and this household chores set. It was a fun surprise for them when the dress arrived to see that it matches the dress that the doll Laura arrives with.

Bringing Pioneer History to Life

Little House on the Prairie dolls and accessories

My children were already familiar with these period items thanks to my love of living history sites. We visited Old Sturbridge Village as often as possible when we lived in Massachusetts, and all four of my kids LOVED washing clothes on a washboard at This Is the Place in Utah last summer.

Now that they have the accessories, they love re-creating scenes from Laura’s life. They put together this little video entirely on their own, detailing a day in Laura’s life.

Besides the history education, this kind of play is wonderful for helping young children develop plot and sequencing. For an older child like Emma who doesn’t really play with dolls much at this point it’s a great exercise in thinking about historical accuracy and adding in plot details.

In addition to this Little House on the Prairie set, The Queen’s Treasures has a neat line inspired by Jane Goodall. They also carry more 18 inch dolls, and 18 inch doll accessories, both historical and modern.

  1. My daughter has a Laura doll and loves it (in my opinion they are infinitely higher quality than the more well-known doll of similar size). I should go check out some of the accessories because she would probably go nuts for them.

I love how detailed this set is. Clearly, makers wanted to make it historically accurate. Much more fun than a regular American Girl stuff!
