This giveaway is now closed – Congratulations, Julie!
The Barefoot Books company was founded by two mothers who wanted books that would feed their children’s imagination while instilling in them a respect for diversity and love of their planet. Brandy sells Barefoot Books, and she has generously offered two books for me to review and a book set to give away to one of my blog readers!
I asked Brandy what she likes best about Barefoot books. She told me that she loves that the books are printed in an environmentally friendly way, that the paperbacks are bound instead of stapled, and that the sing-alongs are sung by people. She also loves the attention to vocabulary, multicultural themes and the artwork. Most of all, she loves that the books are written in ways that intrigue and respect children. She finds the books thoughtful, engaging, fun and timeless.
Brandy sent us these two books to review:
The Animal Boogie was a huge hit with Emma. This book came with a sing-along CD. Emma started dancing as soon as the CD started playing, and the tune is very catchy – I’ve caught myself singing it a couple of times. I like that the book depicts a diverse group of children, including one child in a wheelchair. The style of illustration is not very realistic, but I don’t feel like that takes away from the book.
Johnny really likes the Elusive Moose board book that we received, and I am in love with the hand-sewn illustrations – stunning!
Brandy said that these two books were her son’s favorites, and my two kids definitely love them too! I also like that Barefoot has a page with printable/downloadable activities to do with children inspired by many of their books.
Brandy is offering this PBS Kids Global Gift Set to one of my blog readers! PBS receives $5.00 every time one of these gift sets is purchased. Off We Go to Mexico, We All Went on Safari and Sailing Down the Nile come with their own eco-bag. All three books are written by Laurie Krebs and include endnotes on the area’s geography, language and customs. Children learn to count in Swahili, speak a little Spanish, and are introduced to the gods and goddesses of ancient Egypt. These books are recommended for children aged 4 to 10 years.

A book I’d like from Barefoot Books is the African Animals ABC. I am in the process of collecting books about each continent so this one would work well:)
I’m doing my second entry first, if that’s okay. I love Barefoot Books and my favorite thing about them is the illustrations. They are so artful and inspiring. I cannot rave enough about them.
Something I like about Barefoot Books is that they have products for a wide range of ages. It seems like, with other book sellers, there’s an over-abundance of preK-elementary level literature, but slim pickings for ‘tweens.

What a great giveaway! I looked at the site, and I love all the travel books. I have plans to start geography hops with Anna in January – visiting different countries around the globe. Some of the books (for example, “We Are Off to Mexico” would be perfect for that, and I suspect that I will get some whether I win this giveaway or not. But, of course, I want to win :)

I didn’t see it on Brandy’s site, and I’m not eligible to win anyway, but our favourite Barefoot book is ‘Cleo the Cat‘ by Stella Blackstone and Caroline Mockford.

You know I’m not sure we’ve read any of these books and we read alot. If I were to pick one to start reading it would be The Story Tree by Hugh Lupton.

We are big fans of Barefoot books. We have a few with Clare Beaton’s gorgeous fabric illustrations but I didn’t realize just how many there are. Another one we really like that Brandy sells is “Granny Went to Market,” it was one of the first books that really captured my son’s attention when he was a baby and we still read it now 5 years later.
