Setting Monthly Goals for August 2026

Every month I set a few simple goals to add focus to my life. Here are my monthly goals for August 2026.

Monthly goals for August of 2026

How was July 2026?

Summer has always been my favorite family time because of more flexible schedules. This year is no different, even though there is a lot of not very nice stuff going on. I guess it’s a sign of being middle aged when you’re excited because the two different surgeons who need to operate on you managed to sync their schedules and fit you in months before you were initially told it was possible and on the same day so you only have to go under general anesthesia once.

The actual procedures will happen this month, but the process of getting it arranged consumed a fair bit of July.

July did have some really great moments. My kids threw me a lovely birthday celebration in July, and I managed to finish my summer classes early. That is a big deal since I will be so busy this month.

I have a lot of work projects, but they are all interesting and also flexible.

I made getting Johnny settled into college a July goal, but I must have meant organized because he goes to college in August. We are mostly organized. I will, unfortunately, no longer be able to fly out with him because of surgery. His dad can take him, so he will still have a parent dropping him off. I was really looking forward to the trip, but hopefully I’ll be able to fly out and visit him instead.

July Crafting

I made some good progress on my Jane Austen cross stitch kit, but didn’t take any photos apparently. I did not work on the crochet project I’m stuck on. Life has been a lot.

sewing an ammonite for my nephew

This random craft project has been a good distraction. My niece was visiting and mentioned that her brother really wanted a stuffed ammonite, but she hadn’t been able to find one.

So, I searched the internet and found this very clever and free ammonite sewing pattern, and I have been working on it with my niece and my kids. It’s a group project that we will hopefully complete in August.

1 Second a Day for July

This year I’ve been using the 1 Second a Day app to create mini videos for each month. This was July:

Here are my monthly goals for August 2026:

  • Celebrate Lily and Anna’s birthdays. These are both thankfully pre surgery!
  • Surgery. This is going to take up a lot of the month, and recovery will likely take up part of September as well.
  • Enjoy time with my sister E, who is flying out to help with the surgery. I am so grateful she can come help!
  • Enjoy a visit from my oldest daughter, who worked in LA all summer but will be home briefly before heading back to LA for her junior year of college.
  • Get the kids settled into school. They all start right after surgery, which will be interesting. I am so thankful my sister will be here!
  • Keep up with my own fall term school work. This thankfully starts a week after surgery, so I have some hope of keeping up.
  • Keep up with work work.
  • Finish the ammonite sewing project – I think I can get this done before I have to go into surgery.
  • Keep working on my Jane Austen cross stitch kit.

What is August looking like for you? What are you hoping to accomplish this month?
