Emma and Johnny really enjoyed making this during craft time at the library yesterday, so I thought I’d share it here.
MATERIALS:
- Two paper grocery bags
- Markers
- Colored paper to cut out decorations (optional)
- Stapler
- Glue stick (optional – only necessary if adding paper decorations)
STEPS:
- Cut one grocery bag in half.
- Cut open the four corners of the second bag to the halfway mark.
- Put the bottom half of the first grocery bag inside the second one.
- Fold the cut edges of the second bag into the first bag.
- Use the top half of the first bag to cut and fold handles.
- Staple handles to bag.
- Decorate.
- Use to carry library books (or anything else).

This is lovely! Lots of real estate for decoration! My kids would like it for sure. I’ll have to start hoarding paper bags to have enough for all the kids now.
That is awesome!
We dont have a store around here that carrys paper bags, except little lunch sacks.
@Karin – yep, the second bag is to make it stronger, the final product is actually surprisingly sturdy.
@Quadmama – great idea turning paper bags into dresses, I’m sure Emma would love to do that!
I like that idea! We use our paper bags from the grocery store to make “dresses.”
so cute!
@Ally – the paper bags are just from the grocery store.
This is great. I assume the second bag is there to make it more sturdy and less prone to ripping? That’s a great solution! And how fun that kids can be involved!
How creative, where do you get the paper bags?
