Moms can have fun learning, too, and for October I set myself the challenge of putting together the hat I drafted using this tutorial. It fits! It’s nice to have a hat that fits my big head that wasn’t purchased in the men’s department. And it conveniently hides most of my grey hair, making me look much younger. Hmm…
I definitely need to practice getting the six triangular points to meet in the middle – any tips? I know this is something quilters do regularly, so it shouldn’t be nearly as hard as I found it…

And I don’t for a minute believe you have grey hairs! Although, given that you have three kids like I do, all under the age of 7, maybe yes, I believe you. I have them too (the children and the grey hairs).
And yes, I can share how to get the six points to meet in the middle! You sew half a hat at a time i.e. join three panels into one piece, and three panels into another piece, then put the two pieces together, right sides facing, so the middle points meet, and then sew to join the two pieces into a six-piece thing.

@LiEr – Haha I have way more gray hairs than I should, chronologically speaking. Many more than I can count! My grandma thinks they are highlights, and I haven’t corrected her ;)

I’ll look through my books for tips on the points. I sometimes struggle with it as well, but I think part of the problem is it’s a different type of point that you’re usually doing with quilting…..
