Manana Iguana is a fun re-telling of The Little Red Hen. We all enjoyed the goofy illustrations, my kids were happy to learn a couple of words in Spanish, and I especially liked the ending in this new version of a classic tale.
Michael and the Cats is a great book for kids who don’t have any pets themselves but are going to visit a house with animals. Little Michael becomes friends with two cats by learning what they like instead of trying to make them do things he enjoys.
Corduroy is a classic from my own childhood. Johnny LOVES bears of all kids, and I’m more than a little tempted to make him a Corduroy of his very own for Christmas (or his third birthday).
Poor bear sleeps through the party and then is awake after his friends fall asleep in Bear Snores On. I’m including this story in the list mainly because we all enjoyed the illustrations – and Johnny was thrilled to read another story about a bear! Any guesses as to what he’s dressing up as for Halloween this year?

What a great list! I happen to know a little Michael who could learn what our cat likes rather than trying to involve him in Michael’s favourite activities… :)

Bear Snores On, and the Iguana books are big hits here, though I’m not sure if we’ve read that one, or not.

We should try to hunt down Manana Iguana — my little guy loves anything with spanish in it. I can hear him now, “Manana Iguana rhymes! Manana is spanish! That’s funny!”

@lynn – it’s a cute book, and I like the mix of Spanish and English in it. I bet your little Bibliophile would love it!
@Ticia – I didn’t realize there was an entire series – we’ll have to look for more of the books!
I always like book recommendations. Thanks for sharing!

@Natalie – I’ve been meaning to link up, but somehow I always find it hard to make time to write those posts. Long overdue participation, but at least I made it this time!
@Jaimie – Eight-week-old kittens are so adorable! I’m sure your girls will LOVE them!
We also love Corduroy and Bear Snores On. I’m interested in the cat one because we are adopting two eight-week old kittens this weekend. I must be insane.
