Towers, Art, and First Snow: Our Week

Willow tree the morning of our first snow in 2012

Thursday morning we woke up to this stunning view – and a very light snowfall. The kids were thrilled to go out and explore the first snowfall of 2012 – and this winter!

Emma and Lily explore the snow

Emma had been hard at work doing everything she could think of to convince Mother Nature to cooperate with her wishes for real snow:

Emma's (finally answered) request for snow

I didn’t think there was enough snow to build a snowman, but Johnny proved that perseverance pays off! He called this his snow angel, and it survived two days of rain!

Johnny also built this amazing Cuisenaire Rod tower with a little help from Mike. This is an educational toy from my own childhood, and the kids have been playing with it non-stop all week. Johnny mostly builds, while Lily uses them as people. Emma is very into math at the moment, so we may start putting them to their more traditional use soon.

White board drawing was another a favorite activity this week. I especially like all the hearts in this family portrait, drawn by Emma:

I also saw many reincarnations by all three kids of this bug that Lily drew back in December. Turns out he has real staying power! He is quite cute, in my opinion. =)

We were the lucky winners of this Pick and Draw game in a giveaway at Inspiration Surrounds, Creativity Abounds a few weeks ago. Emma loves it! I love the faces she comes up with:

Lily is working hard to perfect her fish impression. It’s very important to her that she get it just right. I think she’s doing pretty well!

  1. I love these glimpses of your week and all the cute drawings. It looks like a lot of people are finally getting snow. We have rain in the forecast :)

  2. Johnny’s cuisenaire rod tower looks great! We have a set of them that we haven’t really used much yet but I’m sure Sunnyboy would enjoy building a tower with them. Looks a fun week and you had snow too! :)

  3. Yippee for first snow!
Where has it all been this year?
Ours is all gone…melted away! :(
I hope we get a bit more sometime this winter!
    Love your pictures!

  4. What a treat to wake up to the snow (it must have been Emma’s snow notes :)

Johnny’s look of concentration as he build his towers is so sweet. I love when my children play with toys from my own childhood.

Emma’s family portrait is gorgeous – perfect for Valentine’s day.

Lily’s fish impression made me smile. Very cute indeed.

  8. yay for first snow! They look like they had so much fun! I miss snow terribly and love those first sprinklings that make everything look so clean and white!

  9. I LOVE Pick & Draw!!! We have so much fun with it — and it’s a quick and easy activity the girls can do with the grandparents when they come to visit!
