Review: Whirlpool Water Filter

Emma and Johnny drinking water

In this photo from a couple years ago, Emma and Johnny conduct a scientific experiment of whether or not water tastes different depending on which glass it is poured into. We got a little more involved than that – go here to see the full experiment.

I’m particular about water. I spent my early childhood on a farm, drinking well water, then moved to countries where sometimes the city water tasted amazing and sometimes we had to drink bottled and even distilled water. When I lived in Bolivia from 1992-1994, we frequently had people come to our house asking for water, because they had no access to it through public means. I was always grateful to be able to easily provide this basic necessity, and it taught me to never take water for granted.

Our town mails out water testing results, and there are enough contaminants in the water (even though it meets legal limits) that I filter all of our water. I also prefer the taste of filtered water over water straight from our tap. Mom Central offered me the opportunity to review a Whirlpool water filter for our fridge, and I agreed. It was an easy review, because this is the filter we normally use. I like the Whirlpool filter because it removes lead, mercury, and asbestos – all common contaminants in our area, particularly in older houses (like ours). It also removes the chlorine taste and odor. My kids love that they can help themselves to water through the fridge door. I’m still working on their ONLY using the fridge water for drinking, not toy bathing!

“I wrote this review while participating in a campaign by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Whirlpool and received product samples and a promotional item to thank me for taking the time to participate.”

  1. We only drink bottled water. Now that we are on a well instead of city water, I would love to try a filter system. I will have to check this one out. Thank you for your review.

  2. Yes, it’s easy to take water for granted until you’ve lived in places where it isn’t so easy to come by for everyone. Sounds like the Whirlpool filter is a win!

  3. I’m so glad we live where the tap water tastes good and is safe. We have lived places where it isn’t nice at all, so I don’t take it for granted, either. That’s amazing that your filter removes asbestos!
