Review and giveaway: Adventures of Rusty & Ginger Fox

This giveaway is now closed. Congratulations, Nicole Walton!

Adventures of Rusty and Ginger Fox

Tim Ostermeyer’s Adventures of Rusty & Ginger Fox is the first book ever to directly inspire my children’s artwork! After reading about these adorable young foxes, Emma and Johnny drew these pictures:

Emma's book-inspired drawing of two foxes, a sheep, and a bunny

Emma drew two foxes, a sheep, and a bunny. I’m not sure why she wrote Johnny’s name. The two foxes are from the book; they didn’t meet any sheep or bunnies, but I’m sure they would have liked to.

Johnny's drawing inspired by the book

Johnny drew something. Your guess is as good as mine. But apparently it’s tied to the book.

I’m not surprised that this was the book to inspire them, because the photography is stunning. Beautiful images of the foxes and the animals they meet, cute dialogue between the foxes, and really interesting facts about each animal. At the end of the book the foxes meet two little girls and help them find some treasure. I found that part of the book odd – there’s nothing wrong with it; it’s just unexpected and didn’t resonate with me. I still enjoy the book for the photography, its inspiration of beautiful child-created artwork, and as an educational tool to help my kids learn more about several different animals!

  1. I’m visiting from over at Tiny Talk. It is wonderful that your kids have a joy of learning and that you do a lot of crafts. Their artwork after reading the book is just precious. I didn’t even realize this was a giveaway until I got to the end of the post. So my favorite animal has been the black panther (black jaguar); something about how dark and mysterious they are, how powerful yet beautiful at the same time.

I love that it inspired such wonderful drawings from your kids!

Unicorns are my favorite animal — they are fascinating, and it’s fun to imagine you have a pet unicorn in your backyard. Not that I’ve done that… or anything… I’m just…. umm… I’m just sayin’. ;-)

  3. I was typing out my comment to say that I was a follower and thought I better just double check that I have officially signed up. Can you believe I was not officially a follower?!? I am shocked. I am now your “newest follower” who has really been following and loving every minute of it, but under the radar.

I can’t remember what website had a security question that asked what my favourite animal was, and I had to laugh. I suppose by default it’s my cat! And I’m not quite sure why, except that he’s gentle with the children.
