One of the experiments from “60 Quick and Easy Science Experiments with Everyday Items”

I love science, so I was excited to review 60 Quick and Easy Experiments with Everyday Items, an eBook from Touch of Home Learning. My kids and I do a lot of science experiments, and I was impressed to find several experiments in the eBook that I wasn’t familiar with. I especially love the use of cabbage juice – easy to acquire and fun to use, but rarely mentioned in science experiments I see done on blogs. I have “Giver or Taker”, “The Neutralizer”, “Balloon Rocket”, and “Cloud in a Bottle” marked to try in the near future.

Two of the sixty experiments appear to be duplicates (with new names) of experiments found earlier in the book, and I didn’t understand the purpose of two of the other experiments (this doesn’t mean they didn’t have a purpose, but the discussion was lacking). I also felt that a few other experiments might be confusing to someone without a strong science background. There are still plenty of other activities that are clearly described, educational, and a lot of fun! I had nearly all the required materials, and those I didn’t have are readily available (at very affordable prices) at my local grocery store.

The ‘Cloud in a Bottle’ experiment on the blog looks simple and fun. I learned something (pressure is required for cloud formation) just reading the description!

  4. The caterpillars and butterflies game looks like fun. And we play I-spy on many walks (including one this morning).
