February flew by as it always does, and I find myself reviewing the month and setting goals for March. We had a nice month, and I actually achieved most of my February 2017 goals:

  • My sister didn’t make it out here (flight issues), but the kids and I drove up north to visit my sister-in-law and their cousins. My brother is deployed, so we didn’t see him, but we loved spending time with his family.
  • I wrote up my post featuring Creativation highlights.
  • I edited my NaNoWriMo novel and sent it off to family members to read. Anyone here want to give it a go? I started off with middle grade fiction in mind, but I think it turned into more of a women’s fiction book.
  • I got Lily and Johnny’s stories they wrote during NaNoWriMo’s Young Writer’s Program edited. They drew covers for their stories and I bound them using my binding machine. Emma wants to make a few edits to her story before we print it off.
  • I enjoyed a lot of quality time with the kids. Johnny has a music theory class every Saturday morning, and Emma loves coming along to sit in the car and talk to me while we wait for the 45 minute class to end. I’m looking to carve out similar pockets of time every week with the three other children.
  • Mike and I enjoyed a couple dinners out. We need to get more creative with our date planning, though. We’re out of practice!
  • I finished Lily’s quilt! See below for details :)
  • I did not write up smart home or 3D printing posts, but this was a bonus goal.

One of the non-goal highlights of February was tagging along on Johnny’s “Adventures in Music” field trip. Dawn Harms puts on quite a show for elementary school aged children! I found an old clip to give you an idea:

Sewing the Metro Twist Quilt

I wasn’t really thinking when I picked the Metro Twist quilt pattern for Lily’s quilt. So many curved seams! This quick curve ruler helped with the cutting, but I still had to do the sewing. Even with the ruler, cutting out the pieces took a lot more time than it would have for straight edges. I picked the pattern because it looked very “Lily”, and she does love the quilt. So all’s well that ends well!

I decided to tie the quilt rather than quilt it, because Lily and I couldn’t come up with a stitching design that we liked for this already quite elaborate quilt. Sometimes simple is best! I did tie the quilt using embroidery floss rather than yarn for a more delicate look. And I embroidered a message to Lily in one corner. Can you spot it? It’s a bit camouflaged, to make it a secret of sorts.

Sewing a metro twist quilt, and setting goals for March 2017

Very much an introvert, Lily is my child who struggles most with our small space living. We are always doing different things to help her feel like she has her own space in this condo. The current solution is a fort magic canopy over her bed (that looks like it needs some repair work this morning…) Photos and a special quilt also help. Don’t worry, any other child that wants a quilt (or canopy, or photos) will get one as well. You don’t have to be a mega-introvert to qualify! Anna has a fort magic bed enclosure as well, although she likes the frame alone without any fabric. Emma already has the fabric and a pattern picked out for a quilt, but it’s on hold as we have another big Emma-focused project going this month. Johnny mostly just wants music lessons and Lego bricks and play dates with friends. Well, he wants a basketball hoop and a yard, too. We are working on those.

Setting Monthly Goals for March 2017

Set goals month by month to keep them attainable. What are your goals for March 2017?

The BIG goal for March is Emma’s Harry Potter themed birthday party. One of my all-time favorite bloggers, LiEr, just hosted an AMAZING Harry Potter party for her daughter. She is blogging the process and we are taking all sorts of amazing inspiration from her posts. If you are a Harry Potter fan, check out her blog!

So…goals:

  • Finish planning AND enjoy Emma’s Harry Potter party. Learning and gratitude.
  • Enjoy a visit with my best friend from college. She had her first baby a few months ago, and we finally get to meet!!! Gratitude.
  • Spend quality time with Mike and the kids. Mindful living and gratitude.

And that’s it for me for March! If cleaning is on your goals list for March, be sure to check out this cute clean house wall art from my friend Cassie at 3 Dinosaurs. Cassidy has sewing projects on her goals list for March. Kate is working towards balance, purpose, health, and organization with her goals.

  1. I have on my to-do list someday a double wedding ring quilt. My mother in law gave me the kit to make it, and then I had kids, and things got busy…….. So it’s been sitting there left alone for years, but I think it’s time to pull it out.

I’ve been thinking of getting the Ikea bed tents for my kids who are arguing about lights at night.

Lily’s special place looks fantastic. Funny, I actually thought that she is most extroverted of your kids :)
