Learning Through Play School

Emma has been doing a lot of educational play with her younger siblings lately. A few recent examples:

Teaching letters and numbers

Teaching Johnny his letters and numbers.

Reading a counting book

“Reading” (reciting) a Halloween counting book to Johnny (I’m afraid I don’t remember the title of this book and we already returned it to the library – anyone recognize it?)

UPDATE: This book – thank you, Katherine!

Reading a pop-up book

“Reading” (reciting) this Halloween pop-up book to Lily.

Photos like these are one reason I feel very fortunate to have three children close in age – sleep deprivation, daily double digit diaper changes and all. Emma doesn’t always teach Johnny his numbers accurately (she was a letter expert well before her second birthday, but is only now “getting” numbers), but he will figure that out over time – as will she. All three children are learning that learning can be fun, and that’s the best lesson of all.

  1. It’s “Night-Time Numbers, A Scary Counting Book”, it was on the shelf right behind my right shoulder. :-) I think we got it as a library discard. I love the library sale room, great kids hardbacks for a dollar each.

  2. Emma is such a good big sister! It’s great that in the middle of exhaustion you are able to stop, smell the roses and count your little blessings.

  3. I needed this post. I do see this with Hanna and Joe, but this post helps me to look forward right now.

This week is very difficult for me. I’m in survival mode:-). Thanks for this!

  4. Hi! I just clicked over from Blissful E’s site. Isn’t it great when the older siblings take on teaching their younger siblings? Precious!

How cute!! I’ve got an eager “teacher” here as well. You’re right, there are some terrific aspects of having them close together!! Great work capturing those moments.

  6. This just makes my heart melt – so sweet! We may not be able to have more children, and it’s hard, because after seeing these pictures and reading what you’ve written, I want a houseful!!

  7. Johnny looks most interested in the lessons! And the last picture is just so cute. Love your new blog. Will be back very soon for a better look around :)

  8. What a sweet sister!

I have to giggle at “double digit diaper changes.” Since I have twins, it never occurred to me that there are parents who only change a few diapers a day.
