Learning Laboratory: Making Lemonade

Emma squeezes a lemon and Lily pours the juice into the lemonade pitcher

Emma and Johnny got to try fizzy lemonade during a recent science class at a friend’s house, and so when we were choosing fun things for them to do with Mike while I was gone Emma asked to make some lemonade of our own! We bought a lemon, and while I was gone they squeezed the lemons and made some (uncarbonated) lemonade of their own!

Johnny shows his appreciation with a kiss

Johnny thought Emma was pretty sweet to juice the lemons – and he definitely approved of the final product!

Johnny smiles his approval of the homemade lemonade

Mike says the lemonade was a little on the tart side. They were using agave nectar, and may have needed to add a little more. Or maybe they shouldn’t have put in the entire lemon. Do you have a recipe for homemade lemonade that you love?

  1. My kids love homemade lemonade. Hanna recently started making for them and she thinks she is ‘hot stuff’ in the kitchen–LOL!

    Super fun picture of Johnny!

  2. I am yet to make a homemade lemonade. I always thought that you just need to add sugar to taste :) Love the pictures in this post.

  3. I had lemonade sweetened with maple syrup once and that was delicious, although also more expensive than sugar.

  4. The photos in this post are so sweet.

We have not made our own lemonade (something I am going to put on our “to try list”). The best lemonade I have tasted is the one we get at the markets in the city here – so refreshing and delicious. I must ask them if they can pass on any tips about making lemonade.

Sounds like you had a lovely time away (apart from missing your children). I had never heard of tether ball, I did a quick google search and realised that I have played a similar version of this game with my sister when we were younger.

    1. Is tether ball called something else in Australia?

I would love for you to pass on any lemonade-making tips you learn!

  5. Yum! I love lemonade and I love that pic of Johnny kissing Emma! I make lemonade a lot in S. Africa but not so much here. Although my recipe takes sugar.

In Egypt a home remedy for tummy upset (or prevention, when eating something potentially dangerous) was blending an entire lemon with some sugar, then straining it into a glass. Very refreshing on a hot day!

I have a learning activity to link this week! :)

    1. Yay! I was actually thinking your post today would be a good one to link up – LOVE the themed outing idea!

I wonder if that home remedy would remedy the stomach bug Johnny is battling at the moment…

  7. Yep! A quart of cold water, juice of one lemon or lime, and 8-9 drops of stevia. Yummy! It’s my favorite beverage in the summer, actually anytime.
