Learning Laboratory: Emma Sews + SMS giveaway =)

This giveaway is now closed. Thanks to all who entered! Congratulations to the winners: Cynthia, Shola, and TheBargainBabe!

Welcome, Sew, Mama, Sew! visitors! Instructions for entering my giveaway of the pieces and instructions to make a small animal like those pictured below are at the bottom of this post. While you’re here, you might also want to check out my free downloads, which include patterns for a monster children can decorate and felt food.

Emma's hand-sewn dog

Emma’s sewing has really taken off since she made her duck! She made this duck and chicken (see below) with very minimal help from me. I cut out the pieces, threaded the needle, and tied the knots, but that was it.

She even added the tail to this puppy – it wasn’t part of my original design! She made the chicken in one day, while listening to Little House On The Prairie CD that we borrowed from the library!

She has a few more animals cut out, just waiting to be sewn up. They are all based off of the ones I saw in this post at Little Family Fun.

As mentioned in the title, This post is my contribution to the Sew, Mama, Sew! Giveaway Day! I will send a kit with your choice of pieces for a duck, chicken, or dog to THREE winners, anywhere in the world. The kit will have the felt pieces cut out (colors may vary slightly from those pictured); you have to provide the needle, thread, and fiberfill stuffing. This is a great way to learn sewing, so if you know someone who wants to learn how to sew, this is a great place to start! To enter, just leave a comment saying:

  • you’d love to be entered AND
  • which animal you would pick.

You can have two extra entries if you link a post up to my Learning Laboratory linky (see below) – the post can be new or old; it just needs to be about something someone learned because they wanted to! Be sure to let me know in your comment that you linked up!

This giveaway runs through May 25th, when a winner will be chosen using random.org.

  1. I know this is closed but wanted to say how adorable are those animals!!! I love the precious little handstitches and can’t wait until E can do something like this. Some kids could at her age but I think it would be too frustrating and am waiting until I think it’s going to be a hit. I want it to be fun the first time. I think she’d love making a puppy!

    1. I’ll probably do another giveaway of this eventually since it was popular, so maybe you’ll win another time =)

  2. Would love to be entered to win! I pick the dog–my daughter loves dogs, and would have a great time making this. Thanks for the chance to win!

  3. I think my five year old is ready to learn how to sew, but I want to start her with a needle and thread first even though she has a sewing machine. Her favorite stuffed animals are dogs, so I think she would appreciate her own puppy!

  4. What a great learning tool :) I’d love any of the kits, but the chicken is my fav. My 3 yr old son calls anyone dressed up in a Chicken outfit, “Chicken Becco”. No, I don’t get it either. This would be a great learning tool as he watches Mommy sew. Thank you for participating in the giveaway!

  5. I’d have to go for the duck… the other day my 3 year old and 2 year old were going through a ‘secret tunnel’ we’ve found near a lake… (2 hedges of holly have grown together to look like one hedge, but theres a tunnel in the middle) my husband was walking beside the tunnel (he’s too tall to be inside) and said ‘uh oh, look out’ the boys both turned around and ran towards me screaming, I could only assume there was some kind of rabid zombie with a machete coming at them from the other end of the tunnel…. but obviously couldn’t really see around them.. I held them to the side, and a beautiful white duck came jogging past… as if he was on a morning run, and we were in teh way, but it wasnt going to slow him down any. it was quite possibly the most hysterical thing that has ever happened.

  6. That’s sooo cute! My 6 year old son has been begging me to sew. He’s done a little bit on the sewing machine, even made his sister a block for her first birthday, but he’d really like to hand sew. This would be perfect! Oh and he’d love the doggy. ;) katiefewell(at)gmail(dot)com

  7. I like the chicken! My DD sews, too – has been at my sewing machine since forever. She’s a project-hopper – right now she’s working on a throw pillow, a small quilt, and a pair of doll pjs. And in between are lots of little projects made from my – our – scrap bin.
