Learning Laboratory: Circuits

child-made circuit craft

Last Christmas, I bought Mike a snap circuits set, and it was an immediate hit with the kids! They can only build functional circuits with help and/or trial and error, but it was neat to see Johnny make this circuit-inspired craft all on his own! He may not understand the science behind it, but the interest is there, and he has years ahead to learn!

I’m sorry my first attempt at a link went wrong! The name of the post is supposed to be “Sizes and ‘What Fits'” — I apologize!

  2. Oh Wow! What a fun activity– to be honest, I’m a little nervous about trying to make our own circut! But I am sure my son would love it! Thanks for the linky party!

  3. Ohhh what an inventor you have – I remember getting an electronics kit one Christmas and the excitment of making the light come on and the radio work – it was very cool – when I outgrow it my parents took it into their school to use in electronics lessons.

  4. I’ve been wanting to try the snap circuits, but some of the reviews on amazon scared me a little. I’m happy to hear that you like them. Trial and error and sometimes is the best learning process.

    1. We really like our set! You can short-circuit a couple of the pieces if you set it up wrong (surprising given it only uses AA batteries), which may be the source of some of the negative Amazon reviews? There are just a couple pieces we don’t give out when the kids are experimenting with circuits to prevent that from happening. It’s a great parent-child activity, and my 6yo can now set up simple circuits on her own.

  5. Thanks for the shout out for Ready. Set. Read! I love that your little guy created that on his own– isn’t that like the highest level of thinking, to use what you know to create something totally new! smart kiddo. Thanks for hosting the linky!
