Building Imagination and Storytelling Skills with Laminated pictures

Mike telling picture stories

Mike’s grandma sends us a subscription to Country magazine, and it’s always full of stunning photography. I picked out a few favorites, and laminated them. Those laminated photos have become some of Emma and Johnny’s favorite possessions – so much so that Emma hid one of them in one of her secret hiding places, forgot where it is, and is now begging me to help her find it. They use them as “I Spy” pages, they tell stories about the animals, and dream about the landscapes. And they have me and Mike make up stories about the pictures, too. Such a simple play prop, with so many possibilities!

I love how the simple ideas are often the best. We have a small picture album of similar pictures and photos which my toddler loves ‘reading.’

  3. I love this idea! As if I need one more reason to head to the teacher supply store where I do my laminating…I LOVE laminating!

  4. @Katherine – This was my solution for collecting them but not really doing much with them…

@Two Chicks and a Hen – I only recently acquired a laminating machine, so I used to use contact paper instead. It works nearly as well; it’s just harder to get right!

  5. Two Chicks and a Hen

What a great idea. I don’t have a laminating machine, but I might use contact paper to cover a few things for my toddler.
