Exploring the World’s Wildlife and Nature with Junior Explorers

Learning about life in the Serengeti with our Junior Explorers Kit

When I was offered the opportunity to review the Junior Explorers subscription service, I was intrigued. Junior Explorers is a fun and educational monthly subscription kit for kids aged 6 to 11 years old to explore and discover wildlife and nature around the world by going on adventures around the world. This kit is different from others that we have reviewed since it has an online component. You get a package in the mail with information about the wildlife and nature in your assigned destination, and then you go online to learn more, as well as to play a few games. As you complete missions on the computer, you earn points that you give to a real world conservation project. Junior Explorers then converts the points to money that is donated to the project. My kids really enjoy trying out different kits, and this one sounded like one that they would enjoy.

Junior Explorers is an educational subscription service for both boys and girls aged 6-11.

I was pleased to see that this kit features boys and girls working together. As a mother of a son and three daughters, I find it frustrating when games and toys are specifically labeled for one gender only. At this age, boys and girls often enjoy playing together, and learn a lot in the process.

Over the course of the game you learn quite a bit about the animals of the location you are visiting, as well as the world they inhabit. There are exercises to complete like the one above and games to play as you complete your assignment. As you can see in the video below, all four kids really enjoyed this kit. Two-year-old Anna eventually wandered off, but Emma, Johnny, and Lily were completely engaged the entire time.

Seven-year-old Johnny particularly enjoyed this kit. He listed it along with soccer and basketball as one of his hobbies in the poster he made this week as Star of the Week in his first grade class!

Is Junior Explorers something you think your kids would enjoy?

I just love seeing how engaged all your kids were with the online component. Great pictures!

  2. My kids are certainly all about the animals as evidenced by the massive numbers of stuffed animals they haul around. This may or may not have gone through, I don’t really know.

I think it sounds like an awesome program! Mine are both fascinated with anything having to do with animals and nature.
